Connecticut: Pit Bull Shot After Attacking Man In Fairfield County

BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT -- A Bridgeport police officer was forced to shoot a dog Tuesday evening after it severely mauled a man in the middle of a domestic dispute, said Bridgeport officials.

The incident, which took place at 127 Polk Street,  occurred when a pit bull began attacking the man who was having a domestic dispute and officers were called, said Av Harris, spokesman for the Bridgeport Police Department.

"One of our police officers had to shoot the dog to stop the attack," Harris said.

According to Harris, the dog was still alive Tuesday evening, but he was not sure of its condition.

The man was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment.

(February 2018) In Florida, you can slowly starve a dog to death and Volusia County Judge Bryan Feigenbaum will only make you spend about a month in the county jail

DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA -- An Edgewater woman was sentenced to 120 days in the county jail Wednesday after police said she starved her pit bull, which eventually died despite efforts by rescuers to try and save the dog’s life.

Sarah Wells, 37, had originally been charged with FELONY ANIMAL CRUELTY in which she faced up to FIVE YEARS IN PRISON if convicted.

Instead, lazy prosecutors and Volusia County Judge Bryan Feigenbaum let her plead "no contest" to the less serious charge of MISDEMEANOR ANIMAL CRUELTY -- essentially the same level of crime as driving without insurance, shoplifting, vandalism and driving without a license. The crime of slowly starving this poor dog to death, in the eyes of the law, is equal to someone stealing a DVD from Walmart.

Volusia County Judge Bryan Feigenbaum adjudicated Wells guilty and sentenced her to 120 days in the county jail followed by 12 months of unsupervised probation based on the plea agreement.

Wells is barred from owning any animals while on probation. But as soon as her one-year probation ends, she is free to get new animals and starve them to death.

So she doesn't get sentenced to state prison, she is only sent to the county jail -- which is much easier and more lenient than a state prison. With jail overcrowding, most inmates are only required to serve 1/3 of their sentence - so this really means she's only been sentenced to 40 days, about a month for the crime of slowly starving her dog to death.

Animal abusers will only be deterred from abusing and killing animals when the punishment fits the crime. Also, if you look at Wells' criminal history, you'll see one arrest after another for domestic violence/battery. In fact, she was arrested for bettery AFTER she had been arrested for animal cruelty!!!

Seems no one in Volusia County cares that she is 100% guaranteed to continue to abuse animals and humans without fear of punishment.

SHAMEFUL:
Volusia County Judge Bryan Feigenbaum is an embarrassment

The case started when police were called Dec. 20 to the Edgewater Animal Shelter, 605 Mango Tree Drive, where they were told that a woman had surrendered a sickly dog the previous day, according to an arrest report.

The woman, later identified as Wells, claimed to shelter staff that the Pit Bull was a stray that had simply walked onto her property, a report stated. But animal shelter staffers were skeptical because the dog was so malnourished that it even wasn’t able to stand up on its own, police said.

Wells subsequently admitted to lying to animal shelter workers, police said. She said the dog named Wiggins had belonged to her and to a man who had lived at the house.

Shelter workers took the dog to Newman Veterinary Center where staff worked to try to save its life. Animal shelter employees renamed the dog Adonis and mounted a social media campaign to help pay for the dog’s care. However, the dog's vital organs had shut down due to the extreme starvation and, despite their best efforts, he died.

“Our sweet Adonis took a serious turn for the worse this afternoon,” the Edgewater Animal Shelter wrote in a Facebook post on Feb. 15. “He passed away surrounded by people that loved him. His body just gave up, he could not overcome the starvation and neglect he suffered.”

Massachusetts: Future serial killer Miguel Medina, 22, sentenced to a year in the county jail for torturing and killing kittens "for fun"

MILFORD, MASSACHUSETTS -- A Massachusetts man accused of killing kittens because he was bored has been sentenced to a year in the county jail.

Authorities say Milford resident Miguel Medina threw one kitten into a wall and burned another in a fire pit, prompting his arrest last year. A witness told police Medina talked about killing kittens "for fun" when he was bored.

The Telegram & Gazette reports the 22-year-old Medina was convicted of killing or maiming an animal and animal cruelty. He will receive credit for the 100 days he already has spent in jail.

Medina has a history of criminal charges, including domestic assault on family members, destruction of property, vandalism and drug dealing.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A man is facing several charges after allegedly viciously torturing and killing kittens that lived on a family farm at which he was staying.

On Sunday, Oct. 15, two officers were called to Ferrucci's Farm on Howard Street regarding an unwanted person on the property. Members of the Ferrucci family told police that Miguel Medina, who had been staying in a camper behind the farm, was threatening and bothering family members, and refused to leave.

Police walked up to the camper when Medina said, "I knew you guys were coming." Police asked him to leave the property, and he seemed very hesitant, according to a police report. Medina reportedly grabbed his belongings and left.

After he left, a member of the Ferrucci family told police that Medina had texted her that he had killed kittens that lived on the farm.

Police were shown text messages Medina sent in which he said he killed kittens on the farm, the document said

Another man on the scene said that Medina had told him about the killings, and invited him inside the camper to see.

"I had other kittens, but one bit my favorite kitten," Medina allegedly told the man, "... so I threw that kitten against the wall and then I put it under a table."

Medina then reportedly showed the man the kitten bones under the table, and said, "Check this out. I burned this one yesterday!"

The witness told police that Medina showed him the charred body of the kitten in the fire pit and that he "talks heavily about kittens daily and admits to killing a couple a week for fun when he is bored."

The witness brought police to the camper, where officers saw kitten bones "all over the grass."

Police also saw the burned kitten in the fire pit.

Police found Medina, whose home address is listed as Main Street, Milford, on Central Street and placed him under arrest. While booking Medina, he reportedly said, "I killed a kitten," while being finger-printed, said police.

Medina was charged with two counts of killing/maiming/poisoning an animal and one charge of animal cruelty.

A Milford District Court judge ordered Medina to complete a mental evaluation at the Worcester House of Corrections when he appeared in court on Oct. 16.

Medina pleaded not guilty to all charges on Oct. 16, and is scheduled to appear back in Milford District Court on Nov. 13, reports the Boston Globe.

They made a big mistake by not requiring mental health intervention with this plea agreement. This guy is a serial killer in the making.

Ohio: Former Sheriff's Deputy Robert Roberts charged with animal cruelty, domestic violence

OHIO -- On January 24th, detectives were given a video showing Robbie Roberts, 45, of Lansing assaulting a woman and a dog. Officials say the incident happened on January 20th.

Prosecutor Dan Fry says you can see the man beating someone with a belt. At times, he says, you can hear the man saying he doesn't care if she is videoing it. The dog then tried to protect the woman.

"He knew that she was [recording] him. And yes they were verbally arguing as he was striking her with the belt.

"She was never on camera but you could see him swinging in her direction with the belt. Threatening, making life threatening comments to her, and at one point the dog intervened, and he was striking the dog with the belt also," said Fry.

According to a press release, detectives immediately contacted the Belmont County Prosecutor's Office, who then began the process of obtaining an arrest warrant.

An arrest warrant was issued early Friday for Roberts, charging him with Domestic Violence and Cruelty to Animals.

On Monday, Roberts reportedly contacted Sheriff Lucas and made arrangements to turn himself in.

Roberts was employed by the Belmont County Sheriff's Office from July 2003 to April 2009 under a previous administration.

"He was a deputy under a previous administration. Like all the other warrants we get, when we obtained the warrant it was give to our whole patrol division and the patrol division over the whole weekend looked at residents, went and talked to people, and tried to locate Mr. Roberts. And today Mr. Roberts contacted me and turned himself in," said Sheriff Dave Lucas.

Sheriff Lucas says he will not disclose anything about the woman's injuries, or the dog's.

Sheriff Lucas also says he will not release the video to the public, saying it's evidence to the case.

Roberts has been arrested and is now in the Belmont County Jail. He is currently being held without bond while awaiting arraignment.

Oregon: Jordan Vogel, 24, strangled and stabbed his mother's dog to death; has been arrested for abusing family members for the last seven years

OREGON -- A Medford man is accused of stabbing a dog to death Thursday night at a Medford apartment complex.

Jordan Alexander Vogel, 24, was arraigned Friday afternoon on a charge of aggravated animal abuse after Medford police say he stabbed and strangled a family member’s pet during an argument Thursday evening.

Vogel allegedly killed the dog at an apartment in the 700 block of Stevens Street after telling his adoptive mother she could not leave, according to documents filed in Jackson County Circuit Court by Medford police.

The woman sustained a cut to her finger while struggling to stop Vogel from attacking the animal, but she fled for her safety and called police.

When police arrived at 5:40 p.m., officers found the apartment vacant and the dead dog in a back bedroom, according to a Medford police news release. Police found Vogel at an adjacent parking lot, where he was arrested without further incident, according to Medford police.

The woman told police that Vogel suffers from chronic mental illness. She reportedly told police Vogel had never made any threats using a weapon before, but said she fears for her safety because “he will do whatever it takes to get his way.”

Um, what about his previous arrests for domestic violence in Texas???

Circuit Court Judge Lorenzo Mejia set Vogel’s bail at $100,000 Friday, when Vogel made his initial appearance on felony counts of aggravated animal abuse, unlawful use of a weapon and coercion, as well as a misdemeanor fourth-degree domestic violence charge.

The order sets enhanced conditions should he be released, including regular check-ins and an order not to contact the victim.

West Virginia: Robert Becker faces Animal Cruelty charges after allegedly picking up his dogs and swinging them by the collar

WEST VIRGINIA -- A Moundsville man faces charges after allegedly picking up his dogs and swinging them by the collar during a fight with his wife late Wednesday.

At about 6 p.m., Moundsville police responded to a domestic disturbance on Seventh Street (reported to be 1117 7th Street, Moundsville WV). Knocking on the door yielded no results, but inside, a Christmas tree was seen toppled over with several things nearby smashed and broken.

At the rear of the house, police made contact with Robert Stephen Becker, 59, who allegedly told officers, “This is my house and I didn’t touch anyone.”

Becker allegedly told police he was in bed sick when he got into an argument with his wife. After making contact with someone else on scene, police were told that Becker came home angry, breaking things as soon as he entered the house.

When he arrived in the bedroom, he allegedly picked up their two dogs by the collar and jerked them around, swinging one around by the neck and then grabbing a woman by the shoulders and spitting in her face, before she was able to free herself, grab the dogs and run.

Becker was arrested for domestic battery and cruelty to animals, and transported to the Northern Regional Jail. He is free after posting $5,000 bond (likely only 10% = $500).

Michigan: Before killing himself, Christopher Lockhart left note admitting to strangling his wife to death and also to killing her beloved cats

MICHIGAN -- A Michigan man who confessed to killing his wife and her beloved cats before taking his own life left detectives a descriptive note on when and where the horrific homicide took place.

Christopher Lockhart was found dead inside the home he shared with his wife Theresa in Portage in late October, after police say he had been dead for several days.

The 47-year-old was found in the home by police after he failed to show up for a routine appointment with his probation officer.

Also found next to his body, was a note confessing to the high school Spanish teacher's murder which he said he carried out in May after an argument.

The letter contained a 'hand-drawn map' to where he had dumped her body in a game area 50 miles away.

Aside the map, he wrote: 'Detective Hess, I'm sorry for taking her away from everyone. Find her and put her to rest. I had no right to do what I did. I pray that God forgives me. I love her so much.'

In the confession. dated October 23, the former manager of a Pfizer drug production warehouse revealed he choked his wife to death in the downstairs of their home when he was drunk and 'snapped' the night of May 18.

Police followed the map to the Allegan State Game Area where they found the 44-year-old Spanish teacher's body partially submerged in some shallow water.

Since his wife went missing, Lockhart had been arrested four times on various charges including drunk driving, tampering with his alcohol tether and cutting his next door neighbor's internet and air conditioning wires.

Despite being going in and out of custody on those separate charges and being considered a person of interest in Theresa's disappearance, police never brought charges against him for her vanishing.

Detectives suspected the man was involved in his wife's disappearance but never had enough evidence to arrest him at the time.

Back in June, Theresa's mom did an interview in which she said how much Theresa loved her cats and also 'wouldn't put it past' her husband to have done something to her daughter:
Thumbing through old photos Tuesday afternoon, Loretta Huyge looked back fondly on memories of her daughter, Theresa Lockhart.

“That’s Theresa,” she showed 24 Hour News 8 as she pointed at a 4-by-6 picture. “She loves cats.”

But Portage police have named Christopher Lockhart — who was previously charged in a domestic violence case involving his wife and has at least three peeping convictions — the sole person of interest in her disappearance. He has denied involvement.

“I don’t know. I wouldn’t put it past him,” Huyge said when asked if Christopher Lockhart could have killed her daughter.

Huyge hopes that her daughter is somehow still alive and perhaps hiding out somewhere, but fears something horrible happened.

“If they (police) should blame him (Christopher), I hope he burns in Hell,” Huyge said.

As he announced his death and the discovery of Theresa's body in October, Portage Public Safety Director Nick Armold said he never once helped in efforts to try to find his wife.

'Not once had he orchestrated, participated or took part in searches for Theresa or contacted the agency,' he said. The couple shared two young adult children.

Theresa was reported missing by school officials after failing to show up for classes in May.

Her car was later found in a park-and-ride in the area. Her estranged mother shared her suspicion of her husband before her body was found in October.

'He controlled her and wouldn’t let anybody see her,' her mother told Wood TV.

HISTORY OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, DEVIANT BEHAVIOR
Christopher was previously charged in a domestic violence case which involved his wife. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge at the time.

He also had several window peeping charges stemming back to the 1990s.
Witnesses told how he would appear at victims' windows late at night while dressed in a swimsuit.

One male victim said Christopher sprayed him with pepper spray when he confronted him.

New Mexico: Why does career criminal and animal torturer John Santiago keep getting chance after chance?

NEW MEXICO -- Back in August 2016, John Santiago was accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's apartment, beating and torturing her small Pomeranian named Teddy to death.

When the woman went into her home, she found blood in various parts of the house and dog-shaped dents in the wall and a mirror.

She rushed dying Teddy to an Albuquerque veterinarian, who told her that the dog had been burned all over his body, even his eyes had been burned, he had brain swelling, a facial fracture and missing teeth. Teddy had to be euthanized because of its injuries.

Santiago was on the run for a few months before getting caught. He was charged with extreme animal cruelty, aggravated burglary and tampering with evidence.

For this horrific crime against Teddy, career criminal Santiago was given a year in the county jail (not prison) and then that was supposed to be followed up with 18 months of probation.

Well, we all know that being sentenced to a year in the county jail doesn't mean a year. It really means about 1/3 of that -- 4 months. So Santiago was sprung from jail early and by March 2017, he was arrested again for not bothering to show up for his compliance checks. The judge gave him a $25,000 cash bond and said if he can actually pay that, he'll be required to wear a GPS bracelet.

Well, here we are 8 months later and Santiago has been arrested AGAIN. And it looks like he still can't be bothered to show up to his court dates.

Why does the state of New Mexico keep babying him? Let's remember what he did -- HE TORTURED, BEAT, BURNED AND ABUSED A LITTLE DOG TO DEATH.

Of course, Santiago knows he can do whatever he wants and the courts won't really bother with him. I'm sure they'll give him bond, he'll pay it and disappear again... laughing his way out of the courtroom.

Shame on you, New Mexico.
