Indiana: After Pit Bull attacks elderly woman and mauls to death her beloved Poodle named Baby, authorities hand the mauler back to its owner

INDIANA -- Paula Herrig is feeling sad. Posted on Facebook May 3, 2018 ·

Need to vent!! Please Share. Maybe we can get this to the public and news in Indiana. Monday, my moms dog was viciously attached by a neighbors dog. (Mom is in Indiana with my sister, Peggy. That is where this took place)

Mom, 82 yrs old, fought to save her dog, Baby, not once, but twice. As the first time she got Baby, the pit bull attacked again, ripping Baby from her arms. She again fought the pit bull for her Baby.

Baby was in critical condition, until this morning, when she passed away. Mom was bit in the "fight". The pit bull was returned to it's owner!!!!!Where it still is!!!!!

The owner admitted to fault, stating they knew the dog was getting out, but they couldn't afford a "better" fence. But the dog is still returned to that home!?!?

Are you kidding me???? What has to happen for a dog to be removed??? Killing a pet and biting the pets owner isn't enough?? INDIANA, WTF!?!? JUST SOOO WRONG!!!!

My heart aches for you mom!! LOVE YOU!!

TEXAS -- Tavia Gaytan with Jesus Xthajuicemanx Gaytan posted on Facebook March 16, 2018 ·

Yesterday while on vacation we got a call that Gunther was attacked by a pit bull. He was taken to the vet & thought he would be okay.

Tonight while I was holding him, his breathing changed and just like that our lives turned upside down.

We've had 10 years of memories that we will cherish always. Prayers for our sweet babies while they're broken hearts heal๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿถ #healourhearts

Maine: Greater Androscoggin Humane Society knowingly put a vicious Pit Bull on the adoption floor and let someone leave the shelter with the dog. It immediately mauled a Yorkie to death and broke the hand of its owner who tried to save it

LEWISTON, MAINE -- A Lewiston family's dog was mauled to death by a pit bull that was up for adoption at the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society.

Dee Santos says she and her children are devastated over the brutal death of their beloved Yorkshire Terrier named Rocco.

"He was like family,” Santos said. “Everybody loved him, my neighbors, everybody that used to come to my house."

Santos says her 17-year-old daughter suffered a mental breakdown after witnessing the death of the family dog and being bitten, which broke her hand.

A friend of the teen had gone to the shelter and "borrowed" the Pit Bull.

The shelter apparently lets people take adoptable dogs for a walk, but the shelter claims they told the girl's friend to avoid other animals while walking the Pit Bull.

If the shelter knew it was animal aggressive, why would they even try to adopt it out??? Yeah we know. To either keep their euthanasia numbers down or they simply don't care that vicious, animal aggressive dogs attack and kill other animals.

This person immediately took the Pit Bull to his friend's house.

Santos says as soon as the pit bull entered the apartment it went straight for the family's Yorkie tearing the little animal apart.

"Everything happened so fast," Santos said.

They say the harder they tried to pull the two dogs apart, the harder he bit down.

Santos and her children tried to stop the Pit Bull from killing their dog. The Pit Bull then attacked her daughter, breaking the bones in her hand. The dog also attacked her daughter's friend.

"All of my three kids witnessed everything,” Santos said. “And it was brutal. I mean, the way that dog looked like a monster."

Santos said, " I lost my dog, nothing will replace that. Nothing. That's very sad right now. I lost my dog and I have my daughter in the hospital. That's two of the people I love the most."

SHELTER CLAIMS THEY'RE SURPRISED
The humane society director Steven Dostie says he feels "awful" about what happened. He claims the Pit Bull had shown no signs of aggression before the deadly attack.

Dostie said the shelter’s instructions for the dog also included a warning that it shouldn’t be around cats or young children. But, he said, the dog had not been a problem since it arrived at the shelter in February. It was merely “a little rambunctious,” he claimed.

Oh yeah? Then why would you tell people to keep away from other animals and not to take it to the dog park if you didn't know it was aggressive? You all knew this dog was vicious - and yet you were still trying to foist it on people.

The pit bull will be quarantined for ten days to make sure it doesn't have rabies, then will be euthanized.

Santos said she got Rocco, who weighed 4 pounds, from a breeder five years ago. He made himself part of the family, she said.

“We spoiled him big time,” Santos said. “He was like another son for me. He was such a good dog. He was a doll. He was all love.”

Texas: Our precious Bobo passed away. His life was ripped away by a Pit Bull

TEXAS -- Melissa Medina posted on Facebook March 21, 2018 ·

Our sweet Bobo, we will always wear the paw prints ๐Ÿพ left by you. We have had such a rough week, our precious Bobo passed away on Saturday. God gifted us Bobo for 7 years, he became such an important part of our family. Always comforting, always there, such a great companion! He will be truly missed.

It’s the way he left that hurts the most, his life was ripped away by a Pit Bull.

There is nothing we can do now, but life will take care of the owners who refuse to believe that their dog is dangerous. Pit bulls are such a controversial topic...

Joanna Tamayo Martinez - Camila told me yesterday. Poor Bobo, he will truly be missed.

Melissa Medina - Si Joanna Tamayo Martinez, still can’t believe it! We tried taking him to the vet but he passed away in my arms... Dalilah has cried sooo much๐Ÿ˜ข

United Kingdom: Pit Bull attacks and mauls deer to death. Owner pulls a "pit and run" and flees with her mauler (of course)

UNITED KINGDOM -- A deer had to be put down after suffering serious injuries following a dog attack in Aberdeen.

The incident happened on Ashwood Avenue in the Bridge of Don area of the Granite City yesterday.

Police were called about the incident on the residential street that is believed to have involved a Staffordshire pit bull terrier.

The deer had to be put down due to its severe injuries.

A spokesman from Police Scotland said the Scottish SSPCA had been informed about the attack.

Can you post this please?
In the Ashwood area this afternoon (on a residential street) a deer had to be put down by a vet because it was attacked violently by a pit bull type dog. We aren't sure what happened with the dog afterwards as the priority was the deer and getting hold of a vet asap and contacting the police.

So can people please be sure to keep their dogs on a lead, especially around wild animals so this doesn't happen again!

Kelsea Laird - This was outside my door where our car was parked, was horrific to see this poor animal fighting for life ☹️ Terrifying when I have a 2 year old son walking to our car daily and my own little dog who could have been attacked by this vicious animal

Joanne Lynsey Ross - Did you see what color the dog was?

Kelsea Laird - It was a black staffy๐Ÿ˜• The owner came over and put its lead back on and it let go the deer straight away but it was too late ๐Ÿ˜•

Angela Stewart - Kelsea Laird, do you know who’s dog it was? Poppy is always wandering about outside when we come out of the car - makes me a bit nervous as she’s 15 x

Kelsea Laird - Thank you Angela The dog was growling viciously and was shaking the deer about ☹️ My dog is fine thank you๐Ÿ™‚ I'll definitely be carrying her to the car from now on as she usually just follows me and has a wonder around while I get my son in the car but couldn't bare to think of my little doggy being thrown around like that, she wouldn't stand a chance ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Are you Ashwood too? Xx

Tracey Dow - Kelsea Laird, she just walked off?

Kelsea Laird Tracey Dow - Well she came over and put the dog back onto its lead, I heard her say "oh my god" a few times, then walked away towards the bus stop and then I heard her ask the men who tried to help the deer if they were going to phone the police which they told her they had already done and she went off into the moors.

I'm shocked she didn't stay until the police or whoever arrived but I'm guessing she was maybe in shock her dog just killed another animal ๐Ÿ˜• I thought she might have came back when she calmed down but I didn't see her return ๐Ÿ˜•

Um, no she wasn't in shock. She was pulling a well-known "PIT AND RUN"

I phoned my husband and told him and described her to him and on his way home, he seen her walking with someone else and the dog up the moors๐Ÿ˜• xx

Kelsea Laird Tracey Dow - It was actually scary how much the dog changed! It was viciously throwing this deer around one minute and as soon as she approached the dog to put its lead on it let go and just stood by her side and wagged its tail ๐Ÿ˜ณ like a completely different dog!

California: "I'm a bit traumatized after watching a horrific attack of a small dog by a pit bull. The small dog didn't have a chance"

CALIFORNIA -- Bruce Valentine posted on Facebook March 18, 2018 ·

OK....I'm a bit traumatized after watching a horrific attack of a small dog by a pit bull. The small dog didn't have a chance and now it's gone.

You can't enter the dog world and not have contact with pit bulls, who along with chihuahuas are the most common dog mix/breed adopted from shelters.

Can pit bull owners understand the real fears of those who don't own pits, having them around their pets?

Wisconsin: Woman's Maltese mix mauled to death by two Pit Bulls

WISCONSIN -- Cynthia Kubis and her Maltese mix, Marley, came together at the Wisconsin Humane Society eight years ago.

They were separated Monday after a violent mauling on the city's northwest side when two dogs that she and police described as pit bulls escaped from a yard and attacked Marley.

"Of course my dog starts to bark and one of them grabbed her head in their mouth and started shaking her like a rag doll," Kubis recalled of the attack near North 64th Street and West Moltke Avenue.

Despite blows from Kubis and witnesses, the attack didn't stop until the pit bull owner appeared, grabbed his animals by the scruff and dragged them back home.

The mauling left Kubis battered and bruised, but Marley fared far worse, with bite marks all over her small body. Ultimately, she had to be put down.

Milwaukee police said the owner was cited, but Kubis thinks there should be more accountability.

"I want the dogs put down," she said. "I've called the city."

Kubis said an investigator is looking into the attack, which came just two days after a similar attack in West Allis.

In that case, a dog owner shot dead two dogs that were attacking his 1-year-old pup.

I have posted several stories of men who shoot attacking dogs. I don't recall one story where it was a woman who did this -- correction, actually I was able to find ONE story where a woman used a firearm to shoot an attacking dog ("I got the gun out and went in the backyard and took two shots, I knew I didn't have much time with the way they had her down."). Unfortunately, it seems women don't or won't take the necessary steps to protect themselves and their pets.

I'm talking about knives, too. There are multiple stories where men pull out a knife and stab an attacking dog. I don't recall any stories of women stabbing dogs that are attacking their pets.

I'm not trying to single out this poor lady, but look at her. She's the kind of nice, good-hearted person who would bake banana bread for a sick neighbor. But look at her little dog's face. You - the owner - have a duty to protect these little guys. You can't be a lamb when there are lions running around, looking to kill. Remember the Disney cartoon Lambert the Sheepish Lion? How he became a 'real lion' at the end to chase away the wolf which had grabbed his mama, the sheep?

It's frustrating to see this happen over and over and over again. Vicious dogs will always be among us. Irresponsible owners won't change. Therefore, women need to be the ones to change - to protect themselves, their children and their pets.
