Ohio: Woman trying to find someone who wants her Cane Corso Pit Bull mix that wants to attack and kill animals

OHIO -- Kelsie Fae  posted on the Facebook group page Animals Looking for New Homes in Ohio January 25, 2018 at 8:47pm

looking to re-home my two dogs. Lucci is a brindle cane corso / pit bull/ American staffordshire pit terrier mix. He is 6 1/2 years old, NOT GOOD with cats.

Millie is a blue and white (possibly bully?) pit bull / bulldog mix. She is 7 years old. Not sure about cats.

NOT WILLING TO SEPARATE SO DON'T BOTHER ASKING. They have an unbreakable bond and they are not good when separated, they will not eat or use the bathroom or anything. Trying my hardest to not take them back to the shelter so please help me find a home for them!!!

They have to be the only dogs in the home. Lucci is not good with males, Millie was recently attacked by another female while trying to re-home so she is traumatized from the attack.

They’re extremely good, well behaved dogs. Both good with kids and babies, although that does not mean to treat them like they’re toys because they are living creatures. They love cuddling and playing. I just want a good home for my babies and I will do anything it takes to find them one.

I have contacted multiple rescues multiple times and I haven’t heard back from any, so there’s no point in leaving rescues I can get ahold of because they never get back ahold of me.

Indiana: Three-year-old boy hospitalized with 200 stitches, nerve damage after being attacked by relative's Pit Bull, which had history of attacking

INDIANA --  A 3-year-old boy is in the hospital recovering after being attacked by a relative's Pit Bull.

The attack happened Sunday at a home on the east side of Indianapolis.

Elias Hearn, 3, underwent surgery on Thursday for injures to his neck and face. According to Elias’ mother, Stephanie Schofield, the injuries required more than 200 stitches. She said her son has nerve damage, can’t eat or drink, and has lost mobility on the right side of his face.

His mother said he will likely need additional surgeries.

It’s still unclear exactly how the dog attack happened, but according to an Indianapolis Animal Care and Control spokesperson, the child was at a family gathering and playing outside when the dog attacked him and wouldn’t let go.

He said several people worked to pull the Pit Bull away before police arrived. The 3-year-old was rushed to the hospital.

“It is kind of indescribable. It’s like a nightmare you just can’t wake up from and get the images out of your head, and you have to keep praying that your son can find some relief and that he is going to heal properly, and we can limit the amount of surgeries he is going to have,” said Schofield.

An Indianapolis Animal Care Services spokesperson said the Pit Bull was voluntarily surrendered by its owner and put down. He tells us the female owner was somehow related to the child. No citations were issued in this case.

The boy’s mom said she wanted to share her story because she doesn’t want anyone else to have to go through what her family is dealing with.

Schofield said she has two other children, and friends and family have stepped up to help.

A GoFundMe account has been created to help with expenses because she said she can’t work anymore and is spending her time at the hospital.

*update* he was not able to move his mouth or tongue still so a feeding tube was placed. Everyone knows my baby just loves his food and snacks and he saw a chocolate milk on the desk and is so frustrated he can't have anything which is breaking my heart because he can't even open his mouth to cry. He is making progress though so thank you for all of the prayers and please continue to.

Please anyone who owns a dog especially a pit bull, make sure you are a responsible pet owner and if the dog has a history of attacking which this dog had, it's obviously not a good ideal to let him outside without a fenced in yard where children are playing regardless if you see them or not but are well aware they are there. I do not believe all pit bulls are horrible, our dog actually is a pit boxer mix, it's the owner that needs to ensure they are capable of taking care of the type of breed they decide to keep

They just took the bandages off and he will most likely need additional surgeries. All we can do is pray for a miracle at this point. This is the worst thing a parent can feel to see their child in so much pain and unable to do anything to take it away. We need prayers please share 😭

*Baby Elias Update* he is resting and has been out of surgery, it just took me a minute to regain my composure to post an update but surgery went well, they had to remove pretty much the entire area that looked black in the previous pictures because it was dead tissue so now it is all taken out but an open wound we will need to let heal on its own so he can grow his own skin back hopefully. If it does not progress as expected he will need a skin graph so praying he can heal on his own. We already know he will need several more surgeries to gain back the mobility on his right side possibly a nerve replacement they will take from another area like his calf and several more once his wounds heal for the scar revision process. Please just keep us in your prayers

California: Cane Corso breeder mauled by two of her dogs; police shot and killed one, animal control captured the other

CALIFORNIA -- A large dog was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Harbor City after authorities said it and another dog attacked its owner.

Authorities received calls about a woman being attacked by a dog in the 1600 block of West 216th Street around 12:30 p.m.

A black Cane Corso named Achilles and a gray Cane Corso named
Storm were the dogs attacking. Unknown if Achilles is in this photo.

When officers arrived, they were approached by two dogs and an officer-involved shooting occurred. At least one of the dogs was killed and covered with a sheet. The other dog ran away and was later caught by animal control officers.

The woman, 36, was found badly mauled in her backyard. She was taken to a local hospital, where she underwent surgery for serious injuries.

Authorities said the woman was attacked by her own dogs, who are Cane Corsos (aka Italian Mastiffs). It was unclear what led to the attack.

The unnamed woman runs Hendoe's Cane Corsos and breeds them.

One of the neighbors, Joanne, said she was surprised to hear about the attack because one of the dogs, named Achilles, is friendly. She said the woman did get a new Cane Corso not too long ago and wondered if that contributed to the problem.

"I'm very shocked and saddened that one of the dogs had to lose their lives and the woman had to be injured so severely. I mean it's just a really sad situation," Joanne said.

The woman and her boyfriend, Lovell Henderson run a Cane Corso breeding business out of their home called Hendoe's Cane Corsos.

Henderson said he came home and saw Achilles had been killed. Their other dog, named Storm, was the one who had run off.

Henderson says his dogs are the best breed he's ever owned. He said he has three Cane Corsos, and one was inside the home at the time of the attack. He believes it was Storm who attacked his girlfriend.

This is Storm, one of the dogs that attacked its owner

He also believes authorities shot Achilles because he wouldn't let them inside the home. Henderson said he has never had any trouble from either dog and has no idea what happened.

It's unclear what will happen to the second dog. Henderson said he understands if Storm needs to be put down for attacking his girlfriend.

The investigation was ongoing.

North Carolina: Animal Control officer attacked by Tanya Broughton's Cane Corso

NORTH CAROLINA -- An animal control officer in Cumberland County was treated at a hospital after a dog attack on Saturday afternoon, officials said.

The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. at 7211 Beta Street in Fayetteville, according to a news release from Cumberland County officials.

The breed of the dog involved was a Cane Corso, also known as an Italian Mastiff, that was tethered at the time.

After responding to a complaint that the very large dog was tied outside without access to shade/shelter or possibly tied outside and barking non-stop...

The officer, Victoria Herring, was helping the pet’s owner with “untangling the tether from some objects so the dog could move to the inside of the home,” officials said.

However, the dog - once untangled - showed its appreciation by attacking Officer Herring, biting her on the leg and lower body several times, according to authorities.

Herring was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where she was treated and released.

The owner of the dog, Tanya Broughton, surrendered the animal to officers. The dog was euthanized and will be tested for rabies, according to officials.

No charges have been filed in the case, but the investigation is continuing, officials said.

Michigan: Magistrate orders destruction of dogs involved in attack

MICHIGAN -- A Howell man voluntarily authorized the destruction of his (alleged) "therapy" dog, named Mya Mae, that was accused of attacking and killing another dog, his attorney said Thursday.

Livingston County Magistrate Jerry Sherwood authorized the destruction of a second dog, named Lars, belonging to Zackery Bradley and Amanda Bradley because it also drew blood in the Feb. 25 attack on two dogs walking with their owner.

The third one is a Cane Corso named Koa.

“I believe this was a very dangerous situation,” Sherwood said. “I’m not here to blame anybody, but I believe that given the circumstances that the dogs, No. 1 in my opinion came out as a group or pack. … They also drew blood.”

Ann Arbor attorney Michelle Radloff, whose practice focuses on animal welfare and dog law, told the court the Bradleys had Mya Mae euthanized after her advice based on an independent evaluation to determine if the dog was dangerous. She declined to disclose specific details of the report.

Radloff also noted that the couple placed Lars with a rescue shelter and officials there placed the dog at an unknown location. She said the rescue group will not disclose the animal’s location to the Bradleys.

Zackery Bradley cried outside the hearing room Thursday as he spoke about Mya Mae, who he said was a therapy dog for his post-traumatic stress disorder from his service in Iraq.

Therapy dogs, emotional therapy dogs, service dogs... whatever you want to call them: they are NOT supposed to attack and kill other people's pets!

The Bradleys said they would like Mya Mae’s ashes returned to them, but Livingston County Animal Control waffled on whether that was possible.

An animal control officer told the court the couple needed to request the animal’s ashes from Heavenly Acres Pet Cremation, which did the cremation because his department "does not provide that service."

Howell resident Veronica Evans told the Livingston Daily that she was walking her Shih Tzu, Peyton, and Maltipoo, Milo, around 10 a.m. on Feb. 25 in the area of West and Wetmore streets when three dogs “viciously attacked.”

Peyton's injuries required several surgeries, but he survived the attack. Milo died from his injuries. Mrs. Evans has more than $10,000 in vet bills.

Evans identified the aggressive dogs as two pit bulls and a cane corso, which is a large Italian breed known as an Italian mastiff, that belong to the Bradley couple.

Meanwhile, Zackery Alton Bradley was arraigned earlier this month on three counts of having dogs stray and two counts of unlicensed dogs. He returns to District Court on May 22 for a pretrial hearing.

WHO OWNS THESE KILLER DOGS?

Zack Bradley and Amanda Hamilton Bradley chose to own not just one breed of dog known for being aggressive, but three: a Pit bull, a Pit bull mix and a Cane Corso.

Michigan: Woman and her two small dogs attacked by pit bulls and cane corso. Her Maltipoo torn apart; her Shih Tzu still recovering

MICHIGAN -- A Howell woman grieving a vicious attack on her two dogs wants the dogs who she says attacked them to be put down.

Veronica Evans said she was walking her Shih Tzu, Peyton, and Maltipoo, Milo, around 10 a.m. on Feb. 25 in the area of West and Wetmore streets when three dogs “viciously attacked.”

Peyton's injuries required several surgeries, but he survived the attack. Milo died from his injuries at the Michigan State University veterinary clinic.

“I don’t need to hear (the dogs’ owners) have more rights than I do,” she said. “I was told, ‘We have to work through the law.’ It’s been over a month, and those dogs are still in that house. … It’s just so wrong.”

Efforts to reach owners of the other dogs were not successful Wednesday.

Evans identified the aggressive dogs as two pit bulls and a cane corso, which is a large Italian breed known as an Italian mastiff, who live at a home on Wetmore Street.

Howell Police Chief George Basar confirmed his office took a report about the attack and referred it to the city attorney.

Dennis Perkins, the Howell city attorney, said the incident is under investigation. He said he’s trying to determine if it’s a complaint the city should pursue under the city’s Dangerous and Vicious Dogs ordinance or whether it should be referred to the Livingston County Animal Control for investigation and possible criminal charges.

Under the city ordinance, a vicious dog is one that has “killed or caused serious injury” to a person or “has killed another dog.”

A person found guilty of violating the ordinance, which is a civil infraction, faces a penalty including paying all expenses related to seizure of and destruction of the vicious animal as well as a fine based on the number of violations. A person convicted of a misdemeanor or felony could face incarceration.

Perkins said the dogs’ owners have been identified and one admits ownership of the dogs.

Evans hopes the city or prosecutor’s office will consider charges in her case.

Andy Seltz, director Livingston County Animal Control, said his office responded to one prior complaint at the dog owners’ home, but the complainant declined to pursue charges.

Meanwhile, Evans is considering civil action. Thus far, she said, she has spent upwards of $10,000 in vet bills for both Peyton and Milo.

She also hopes to work with the city to more quickly address similar situations should it happen to someone else.

“I’m not done with this,” Evans said.
