Georgia: Golden Retriever named Ollie attacked by Pit Bull at dog park

GEORGIA -- While at Parkgrounds in East Atlanta,  Ollie the Golden Retriever was viciously attacked by a Pit Bull.

Ollie's owners have created an Instagram page just for him. Why? Just look at that face. He simply can't take a bad photo. Also, Golden Retrievers have been purposely bred for years to be docile and sweet. That's why they are so often used as guide dogs. I have never read a story about a purebred Golden Retriever mauling anyone - and I've read a lot of dog attack stories.

The way to get new toys and hand-fed frosty paws is NOT the way I'd recommend! Luckily, I'm on track for a full recovery and should be cleared to play in the next 2-3 weeks! Be safe in those dog parks, fellow puppers.

remythegermanshep
Oh no I’m so sorry!! You look like you’re in good hands and you’re being spoiled though here’s to a speedy recovery!

_olliethegolden_@remythegermanshep
thank you

goldenrooboo
Aww, poor thing. And Golden’s are the least aggressive breed. I hope there is no permanent damage. We don’t ever take Rudy to dog parks for that reason. I’d rather know every dog/owner well instead of taking potluck at the park.

_olliethegolden_@goldenrooboo
lesson definitely learned. We will never go to another dog park for that reason. It was awful.

beckett_and_brody@_olliethegolden_
You must have been so afraid. Was it a larger dog? So glad Ollie is ok. We’ll pray for quick healing. And prayers for you both too!

_olliethegolden_@beckett_and_brody
it was a 5yr old pit mix. We're very thankful and very lucky Ollie will be okay. Thank you so much for the prayers. We're receiving them fully and gladly accepting all the prayers we can get.

annabellejeanlevy
Aw poor baby! What dog park did this happen at?

_olliethegolden_@annabellejeanlevy
it is called Parkgrounds in East Atlanta

Australia: Golden Retriever attacked by "massive Pit Bull" at the park; afterwards owner fled with Pit Bull

AUSTRALIA -- Jenna Mitchell added 4 new photos to Facebook January 1 at 1:26pm ·

My beautiful Louie resting after being attacked by a massive pit bull x at the park this evening.

After a stressful trip to animal emergency, I'm very happy to say he's okay. He is definitely one lucky boy to still have his right eye after getting bitten on the face! Love you Louie Pooie xx

Jenna Mitchell - He is much better today.. Eye looks good and he is back to his normal self! Thanks for everyone's well wishes!

And it happened at riverside gardens in Bayswater. Louie was on the lead as we had just gotten out of the car and it came running over and the owner shouted out "don't worry, he's friendly" and within a second it went for him.

Louie fought back making it very difficult to separate them and the other owner took forever to help me. I think she must have been stunned. Afterwards she simply said "well he's never done that before" and walked off.

This occurs so often, Pit Bull owners run off with their dogs after an attack, that it's been coined "PIT AND RUN"

It was definitely the most frightening experience I've had as a dog owner!! Just a reminder to people to be cautious with their 7000kg fighting dogs

Maryland: Firefighter rescues Golden Retriever stuck in icy culvert

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MARYLAND --  The dog was shaking, tired, and covered in ice.

“Honestly, I would love to see him get back to his owner,” said Firefighter Jesse McCullough.

The Prince George’s County Fire Fighter and his team at Company 30 were called out to rescue the dog, who was stuck in a culvert.

“It was just icy concrete, so you just are not going to be able to climb out easily,” said McCullough.

The Prince George’s County firefighter picked up the frozen pooch and carried him to safety.

“I basically had him resting on my knee and then coming up the beams of the ladder, just taking a rung stepping up. You know, your legs can lift a lot more than your arms ever can,” said McCullough.

Company 30 put the dog in the back of the fire truck and cranked up the heat. When they got back to the fire station, the firefighters laid out a bed, food and water.

The Golden Retriever did not have a collar or a working microchip, so McCullough is hoping the dog’s owner is reading this story.

If not, McCullough is not ruling out adopting the dog, which Company 30 appropriately named “River.”

“It’s an option. I have to talk to my wife and three-year old,” laughed McCullough.

Tennessee: Rutherford County judge rules Rachel Jackson's Pit Bull ‘dangerous’ after it attacks neighbors and pets

TENNESSEE -- A vicious dog has been terrorizing a Murfreesboro neighborhood, attacking several other dogs.

The pit bull dog, named Molly, has been labeled by the judge as a dangerous dog, meaning, the owner has to comply with several restrictions to keep other residents safe.

The dog has "somehow" managed to get loose REPEATEDLY and roam the Church Street area near downtown LOOKING FOR PEOPLE AND PETS TO ATTACK.

Molly the pit bill has been on a rampage, violently attacking other dogs in the neighborhood.

“There was just a lot of screaming, it was terrifying,” said neighbor Judy Wilson. “That dog had my dog by the neck and it probably lasted a good minute and a half to 2 minutes.”

Wilson’s dog Maverick was put in a jaw locking choke hold.

“Never been afraid of a dog, never,” Wilson said. “I’ve been cautious, but until you experience just the true viciousness of what happens in that.”

Wilson thought it was the end for her little Maltese-Yorkie (Morkie).

“I thought I can’t believe I’m going to watch my dog die right in my front yard,” Wilson said.

PIT BULL REPEATEDLY RAN LOOSE, ATTACKING NEIGHBORS & PETS

This is not the first time Molly has attacked a dog.

Back in August, a Golden Retriever mix was tied up on a front porch.

Molly got loose from her leash and attacked the dog. In the process, the Golden Retriever’s owner was also bitten.

News 2 has learned a court order has been signed by a judge labeling Molly a dangerous dog for the rest of its life.

The owner, Rachel Jackson, will have to abide by multiple conditions, including placing a sign on the property stating “Beware of Dangerous Dog”, the dog must be placed in a restraint and wear a muzzle if it leaves the home, and wear a collar that clearly identifies it as being dangerous.

If kept outside, the dog will have to be in a double enclosure. For example, in a kennel in an fenced yard.

The owner will also have to show proof of a $100,000 liability insurance policy.

“They have the responsibility I believe to follow the rules to keep everybody else safe,” Wilson said. “Everybody should be able to walk up and down this street with a dog on a leach.”

Wilson’s dog was almost attacked again this week. She is concerned what could happen in the meantime.

“I have to think had that dog maybe seen a small child held by the hand or something, I feel like after my experience what the dog did, the same thing would happen,” Wilson said.

Animal Control officiers will be visting the dog’s owner as soon as Friday to let the owner know about the Dangerous Dog court order.

The owner will have 60 days to comply, or she could simply give up the dog.

No one answered the door while our crew was in the neighborhood and we attempted to call owner, but the listed number was out of service.

(October 2017) Arkansas: Family slits Pit Bull's throat after it attacks everyone, including their elderly Golden Retriever, which had already been attacked by it once before

ARKANSAS -- David S. Waters added 2 new photos to Facebook.
October 13, 2017 · Redfield, AR ·
⚠️ EXPLICIT ⚠️

Last night, my pit bull attacked my golden retriever for the second time.

Although Pumpkin (Golden-retriever), will be okay now. Lavender (Pit-Bull) would not let go of her and it resulted in someone having to cut her throat to get her to release. Right after she went after us humans.

Although she survived, she is okay but we do have to put her down today.

I wanted to believe that she wasn’t a vicious, cruel, and dangerous dog but after this unexpected attack I can no longer believe that. We treated her correctly, we didn’t starve her, we didn’t abuse her. We took advice from experts, animal control, vets, and we still couldn’t control this specific Red-nose pit bull.

It’s been very hectic since last night, I posted some on Snapchat and I truly appreciate your remorse. May god bless you all!

Emma Julianna - We don't always know why dogs do what they do, but I believe it's usually with good reason. Please don't turn your back on your own dog.

David S. Waters - Yes I completely understand it wasn’t up to me to decide, to calm down lavender we had to call animal control and they didn’t give us an option since this is her 3rd time attacking. Once with a previous owner, 2 with us. I would of not decided to do that if i had the option.

David S. Waters - My 12 year old golden retriever didn’t deserve the beating she got twice in the last 6 months. She’s old and can barely walk, doesn’t pick a fight. Always stays away from lavender. It was just the dog I know it’s not all pits as we discussed before [apologist]. This one ended up not being a good one. 2 unexpected attacks in 6 months is not normal.

Denny Waters - Lavender is not a cruel dog but she acted by her instinct.. unfortunately she attacked pumpkin and we don t accept it cuz she is our family.. so lavender must go

Stephanie Stevens - Im so sorry to hear that.. has she tasted blood before? Maybe she attacked another that has trespassed in the yard or something? I've heard once some animals get the taste of blood, they turn that way. There's no turning back. Pray for a quick recovery for you're other dog though. 😔

David S. Waters - She attacked pumpkin last night once, smelled blood and came back for more. Tore her up. Then she went after my little brother. (Little but 16) someway somehow get her off of him and into the garage and we called the police she was going crazy she looked/ acted possessed.

Stephanie Stevens - It sounds definitely like the taste of blood. Its not all pits or dogs in general but blood will make them go crazy. As much as I hate to see a beautiful pit get put down, it probably would've been your only option even if you weren't forced. She wouldn't have stopped trying to get more. Sorry to hear about your dogs.

California: Golden Retriever named Rossi mauled by Pit Bull

CALIFORNIA -- Stefani Xu posted to Parkmerced Facebook October 21, 2017 ·
Beware of Aggressive Dog

Yesterday, my dog was bitten attacked by a Pit bull from Parkmerced community names Shudo, medium size, gray coat with slight white dots, the owners are named John, white Caucasian, roughly 6’, skinny, with leg injury tool rapped around right feet, and Elisa, white Caucasian, 5’5’, medium size body type, who moved in our community 3 weeks ago.

Their Pit bull bit off a square skin off Rossi's right shoulder, blood was all over his body. Doctor came back with the result the next morning, stated he was bitten by a wild animal, who might be carrying virus and diseases, which had affected Rossi. Now Rossi has stitches covering the wound, with depressing down spirit.

Not only didn’t they apologize for the injuries on Rossi their dog caused, nor didn’t they pay the bill, but two of them attacked me, a 5'4 tall, 90 pound small women, and my dogs in the dog yards with pepper spray the next morning!

As a member of our Parkmerced community, I feel responsible to make all our residence aware this aggressive dog is out there, so as these wild people.

As a dog owner, a mom, to protect our children and families, I feel the extreme need from the bottom of my heart, to warn dog and children owners in our community to stay away from wild animals. As I trust we know how hurtful it is too see our own child get bitten off a piece of meat, and the suffering and pain, not to mention the medical bill!

Yesterday, I created this Facebook "Guardians of Parkmerced" community page to welcome dog owners, guardians of the community to stand together to protect our families and community!

If you do have concern and had experience like me, please do feel free to reach out! With all of us standing together, we could make better and louder voice in the community! And we should! This incident should never happen to any dog owner, any member of our community!

PS. Since 3 weeks ago, water bottles in our fenced yard were cracked into pieces with bite marks and blood on. I wonder if it's the work from the same dog. Or if there is a similar issue we should concern about. If you have any insight or information, please do reach out.

Because if it’s the same dog it’s highly possible they have been forced to move from the previous rental place. Now, they are here to damage ours. Rossi and I, and our entire community would appreciate your input and involvement to make us a better community!

UPDATE:
Guardians of Parkmerced posted on Facebook Yesterday at 3:35pm ·

Thanks for all the neighbors who reached out and the insight shared. The couple is reported living in 405 Serrano Dr. For those my dear neighbors who lives in that building, please watch out and be careful! I'll share more info once I have further confirmed information.

New Hampshire: Dog found abandoned was 4th animal left outside Bedford shelter in August

NEW HAMPSHIRE -- A golden retriever that was abandoned at a local animal shelter and had to be euthanized was the fourth animal in less than a month that was left outside of the facility.

“This was a particularly tough situation. We love animals and we empathize with them,” said Maureen Prendergast, director of outreach and investigation at the Bedford Animal Rescue League. “Obviously this dog suffered.”

Police said an unidentified man and woman abandoned the dog at the Route 101 shelter around 7 p.m. on Sunday. An employee discovered the female dog in a mulched area outside of the rear portion of the building Monday morning — about 12 hours after it was left there.

“This was pretty emotional,” said Prendergast. Staff members contacted police about the case, which was reported as a possible animal cruelty offense.

Video surveillance showed when the couple dropped off the dog. They carried the animal to the rear door of the facility and placed her on the ground before laying a blanket on top of the pet, said Prendergast.

“You could see the dog wag her tail a little bit. Here is this sweet soul completely innocent and then you watch her crawling after the couple and following them as they leave,” she said, adding the golden retriever was unable to use its two hind legs. “She wanted to go with them.”

After crawling around, the dog eventually moved to a mulch area in the rear exterior of the property.

“We watched this unfold on video and were heartbroken that we could not have helped at the time,” Prendergast said.

The golden retriever was the fourth animal to be abandoned outside of the facility during August. A cat was left in a carrier a few days ago while the shelter was open during normal business hours, and a guinea pig was left in a cage outside of the facility as well.

In addition, a different dog was left outside about two weeks ago, however that pet was tied to the door of the building and was in good physical condition.

The golden retriever, however, did not have use of its rear legs, had a double ear infection, had progressive dental disease, overgrown toenails and possibly some spinal issues, according to shelter officials.

Prendergast said the dog, probably 10 or 12 years old, could have had cancer, and did not move once it was safely indoors and lying on a dog bed.

Bedford police said the animal refused to eat or drink, and had to be euthanized because of its poor medical condition and long period of neglect.

“This is an extremely disturbing case where an innocent animal was abandoned and left to die,” Police Chief John Bryfonski said in a statement. “We are encouraging anyone with information about this incident, or who may have seen something, to give us a call right away.”

No arrests were made by Friday afternoon, and authorities are continuing to investigate.

Prendergast said it is not clear whether the couple that dropped off the dog actually owned the pet, or whether they had found the dog and brought it to the shelter during off-hours. Regardless, she said it is critical that if pet owners feel they have no other choice but to let go of their animals, that they call the closest animal shelter first.

“We just ask that they call us and tell us their situation and we can get help for the dog,” said Prendergast. “We are here to help, and we want to educate the public and understand the history of the dog, which helps us in relocating the pet.”

Anyone with information about the case is urged to call police at 472-5113. The couple that left the dog at the shelter was driving a blue four-door sedan.

New Hampshire: Golden retriever 'was abandoned and left to die', says police chief

NEW HAMPSHIRE -- Police are asking for the public’s help to find a man and woman who abandoned a badly neglected dog at the back door of a local animal shelter.

The dog, an adult female golden retriever, had to be euthanized after a veterinarian found “extensive medical issues” stemming from neglect over a long period of time, police said.

Employees at the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire said the dog was 10 to 12 years old.

“This is an extremely disturbing case where an innocent animal was abandoned and left to die,” Police Chief John Bryfonski said Thursday.

“We are encouraging anyone with information about this incident or who may have seen something to give us a call right away,” he said.

Police responded to a request for help at the Animal Rescue League headquarters on Route 101 at 8:32 a.m. Monday.

A shelter employee told police after reporting for work that a worker found the dog lying in the mulch near the building’s back door.

Video surveillance images revealed a woman and a man in a four-door, blue sedan abandoned the dog around 7 p.m. on Sunday.

The shelter closes at 5 p.m. on Sundays, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bedford Police Department at 603-472-5113.

California: Dog owners testify against accused animal torturer and killer David Herbert

CALIFORNIA -- A preliminary hearing continued Thursday for a man accused of torturing his neighbor's dogs.

Prosecutors say David Herbert poisoned and burned the dogs - and even gouged out one of their eyes.

One of the dog's owners took the stand on Thursday.

36-year-old Herbert is accused of torturing and mutilating two dogs and killing one.

Earlier this year, the navy veteran is accused of breaking into his neighbor's Oceanside home and pouring acid on her two huskies, and gouging the eye out of one.

Oceanside Police Detective Gabriel Nolasco took the stand and described the injuries.

"Something had been thrown into her dog's face because the injuries were sustained on the muzzle and the eye and front legs," said Nolasco.

Herbert is also accused of trying to poison the dogs.

A responding sergeant testified that scalpels and antifreeze were found inside Herbert's home.

The family with the huskies moved out, for fear of their safety, then Michelle Plaketta moved in with her family and two dogs.

Herbert is accused of taking both of her dogs hours after she moved in.

On the same day Plaketta's dogs went missing, Herbert was caught on HOA camera with a dog in his back seat.

One of Plaketta's dogs was found, the other - a golden retriever mix name Lala was never found. Police say her blood was on a baseball bat inside Herbert's Oceanside home.

Closing arguments are expected in the case on Friday. A judge will then decide if the case will go to trial.

Oregon: Marty Anthony, 58, gets $100,000 bond after torturing and repeatedly stabbing his brother's two dogs in the head, killing one

OREGON -- A 58-year-old Douglas County man is accused of torturing his brother’s two mixed golden retriever-terrier dogs to death.

Martin Anthony is charged with two counts of aggravated first-degree animal abuse and two counts of first-degree animal abuse.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office confirms they responded to the 77000 block of Highway 101 in Gardiner, Oregon on July 16 on the report that two dogs had been injured under suspicious circumstances.

When deputies arrived, they spoke with the 9-1-1 caller and his female neighbor. The deputy first on scene reported seeing a large tree on the property and that at the base of the tree were two motionless dogs that were surrounded by blood.

Investigators confirmed the two dogs were 10-year-old brothers from the same litter. The dogs were named Shep and Shag.

When deputies approached the tree, they found a rope with metal clasps on both ends. The rope was wrapped around an exposed root at the base of the tree. One end of the rope was attached to Shep and the other attached to Shag.

Shep had a large cut on the top of his head and the wound was bleeding profusely. He was rushed to a local animal hospital. Shag also had a large cut to his head and was found deceased at the base of the tree.

Investigators learned that neither dogs were ever tied up by their owners. The dogs’ other owner was out of town at the time of the attack.

“There is no reason why they should be tied up,” deputies wrote in court documents. “From looking at the evidence, it appeared to me that Shep and Shag had been tied together to prevent them from running away. Then they were hit on the head with an edged weapon.”

Investigator spoke with staff at the animal hospital and learned that Shag had a cut on the top of his head and also had several “uniform” round holes in the top of his head and that the injuries were likely from an ice pick or similar style instrument.

The other dog, Shep, was heavily sedated and at last report may need to be put down.

Deputies eventually contacted Anthony who is reported to be bipolar and has schizophrenia. He denied hurting the dogs. Investigators learned that Anthony is the brother of one of the dogs’ owners.

Investigators found a large knife and metal file that were covered in blood.

“There was blood and dog fur on the blade” on the knife, according to court documents.

Investigators also found Anthony’s pants and boots that reportedly had blood on them. When asked how the blood got there, Anthony asked for a lawyer.

Anthony is being held at the Douglas County Jail. He appeared in court on Monday. His bail is set at $25,000.

China: Man's Golden Retriever beaten, tortured and abused by China Eastern Airlines staff

CHINA -- These shocking images show the injuries sustained after a dog was allegedly manhandled by airport staff.

The Golden Retriever, who was taking a flight home with its owner, suffered serious injuries after reportedly escaping from its cage.

What did they do to his eyes???

It is believed ‘excessive force’ was used on the dog by airport staff.

The 23-year-old owner of the animal said his dog Er Mao had severe injuries to its eyes and body when he was handed to him by staff at Tianhe International Airport in Wuhan, capital of Central China’s Hubei Province.

The dog had been placed inside a cage in the cargo hold of the China Eastern Airlines flight from Shanghai, although it’s said to have escaped and bolted across the tarmac.

Were they stabbing him? Tasing him? WTH?!

According to a statement by the airport, flight MU 2544 was delayed and eight staff members spent over 40 minutes chasing and restraining the runaway pet before putting it back in its cage.

After the flight landed in Wuhan, the owner said he had to wait over an hour to be given his dog, and only then was he informed that Er Mao had somehow managed to escape the cargo hold.

Photo taken before he was tortured and abused

The airport CLAIMED their staff had to react to the ’emergency situation’ in order to avoid damage and injuries to assets and passengers, apologizing to the owner for the incident that has grabbed headlines nationwide.

But the owner, who said his pet was still receiving emergency treatment at an animal hospital, is demanding a better explanation and may seek damages from the airport as well as the airlines.

Further investigation is now under way to determine who will take the blame for the dog’s escape and injuries.

Metro.co.uk has reached out to both Tianhe International Airport and China Eastern Airlines about the allegations.

Note: China does not have ANY animal cruelty laws; they can basically do whatever they want to animals without repercussion.
