New Mexico: Thirteen-time convicted felon Shaun Anaya will spend at least 8 months in jail for beating and torturing a puppy with power tools

NEW MEXICO -- This afternoon, Attorney General Hector Balderas announced that Shaun Anaya, who was on probation for an Office of the Attorney General case and is a thirteen-time convicted felon, was found by Second Judicial District Judge Angela Jewell to have violated his probation for committing extreme cruelty to animals and possession of marijuana.

The Office of Attorney General Hector Balderas asked Judge Jewell to impose the maximum penalty of 1,421 days in prison which included habitual enhancements.

Anaya was sentenced to two years in the Department of Corrections for the violations.

Likely he'll only serve a 1/3 of that "with good behavior" so assume he'll be out in 8 months' time.

"Violence against animals is so many times directly linked to domestic violence and can never be discounted," said Attorney General Balderas. "My office is committed to holding violent, repeat offenders accountable."

Shaun Anaya was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty in June of 2017 when he was accused of brutally beating and mutilating a Pit Bull puppy with power tools in the backseat of his car on June 1, 2017, leaving the three-month-old dog bloody, with a broken tooth and other injuries.

Anaya has denied hurting the puppy, claiming a group of kids injured it.

“I know you’re telling me you didn’t, but all of the evidence, physical testimony, eye-witness, ear-witness says that this happened, “said Judge Jewell.

HORRIFIC DETAILS FROM THE POLICE REPORT:

On June 1, 2017, at approximately 2358 hours (1158pm), I was dispatched to the alley just south of ______ in response to a call about an animal.

Caller advised he could see an individual beating his dog in a vehicle. He could see the individual hitting the dog and throwing it around the vehicle. While en route, Dispatch advised that the caller could still hear the dog screaming.

Further remarks just as I was arriving advised the man was standing at the rear of the vehicle with the tailgate up and the caller could hear a power tool.

I arrived and parked just west of the alley and approached on foot.

From approximately 40 feet away I saw a man, later identified as SHAUN ANAYA, standing at the tailgate of a vehicle with the tailgate open. He was moving his hands and appeared to be working on something in the tailgate.

I heard a dog yelping and screaming in agony. I began walking towards him and got within 30 feet and could see he was doing something to a small dog.

I shined my flashlight at him and he quickly stopped what he was doing and started trying to clean up the area. As soon as he stopped the dog immediately stopped yelping.

Shaun said, "Can you get your flashlight out of my face?"

I observed blood on several areas of the dog's fur. I observed blood all over the carpeted area in the rear of the car and smeared on the inside of the back right window. I observed dog feces in several areas of the back of the vehicle and on a power saw on the blade and on the handle.

The passenger door was open and I observed blood on the seat and blood smeared on the door. There was fresh blood spatter all over the dash. I observed the small puppy had swollen eyes and was very sluggish. I observed blood in his mouth and saw he had a broken tooth on the right side of his mouth.

I spoke with the caller, Derrick Sanders, who told me he was woken up by a dog yelping. He looked out his window and observed SHAUN ANAYA outside the open front passenger door. He was punching the dog who was in the front passenger seat repeatedly. He then threw the dog to the rear of the vehicle. He walked back to the rear and the dog started yelping again. At this time, Derrick heard what sounded like a power tool being started in the rear of the vehicle. Shortly after this I arrived and confronted SHAUN ANAYA.

Oregon: Jordan Vogel, 24, strangled and stabbed his mother's dog to death; has been arrested for abusing family members for the last seven years

OREGON -- A Medford man is accused of stabbing a dog to death Thursday night at a Medford apartment complex.

Jordan Alexander Vogel, 24, was arraigned Friday afternoon on a charge of aggravated animal abuse after Medford police say he stabbed and strangled a family member’s pet during an argument Thursday evening.

Vogel allegedly killed the dog at an apartment in the 700 block of Stevens Street after telling his adoptive mother she could not leave, according to documents filed in Jackson County Circuit Court by Medford police.

The woman sustained a cut to her finger while struggling to stop Vogel from attacking the animal, but she fled for her safety and called police.

When police arrived at 5:40 p.m., officers found the apartment vacant and the dead dog in a back bedroom, according to a Medford police news release. Police found Vogel at an adjacent parking lot, where he was arrested without further incident, according to Medford police.

The woman told police that Vogel suffers from chronic mental illness. She reportedly told police Vogel had never made any threats using a weapon before, but said she fears for her safety because “he will do whatever it takes to get his way.”

Um, what about his previous arrests for domestic violence in Texas???

Circuit Court Judge Lorenzo Mejia set Vogel’s bail at $100,000 Friday, when Vogel made his initial appearance on felony counts of aggravated animal abuse, unlawful use of a weapon and coercion, as well as a misdemeanor fourth-degree domestic violence charge.

The order sets enhanced conditions should he be released, including regular check-ins and an order not to contact the victim.

Indiana: For weeks, convicted felon Lemontrae Bible, 24, beat a tiny puppy, breaking multiple bones, say police

INDIANA -- A man has been arrested and charged with severely beating a 4-month-old puppy so badly that he broke multiple bones.

Lemontrae Bible, 24, was arrested Friday at a home on N. Kenyon Street.

According to police reports, Bible was charged as part of an investigation into animal abuse where a 4-month-old puppy was beaten severely.

Bible’s girlfriend, Holly Brand, says he started hurting the puppy shortly after she got it for her daughter.

“He had pistol whipped her and actually had a broken tooth,” said Brand.

She says the abuse started after the puppy had an accident in their home.

“I didn’t really think it was that bad – I didn’t want to believe it. I don’t know. I should have stepped up more sooner,” said Brand.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department found the puppy while responding a house on N. Kenyon Street.

The puppy, named Halsey, is being cared for by Zionsville-based rescue Every Dog Counts. The group shared some of Halsey’s story on their page Thursday, along with a link to raise money for her care and recovery.

Halsey was so abused that she suffered extensive jaw and head fractures, broken bones and had to have a tube inserted so that she could get nutrients while she recovers.

“Her abuser left her with multiple skull fractures, a broken jaw, multiple broken ribs and a badly broken forearm,” the rescue posted on their Facebook page. “She sat like this for days, with no help or pain relief before she was found and rescued.”

Halsey went in for surgery on Thursday, according to the rescue, to try to save her leg, which was broken completely in two.

“Through the process of multiple diagnostic tests, we’ve realized that this has probably been going on for a while – more than one incident,” said Dr. Johnny Cross, Medical Director, VCA Advanced Veterinary Care.

“It is simply not fair for life to have been so brutal and painful for this baby,” the rescue posted.

If you would like to donate to Halsey’s care you can visit the Every Dog Counts Rescue Facebook page and click “donate” under Halsey’s story.

The rescue will also help find Halsey find her forever home when she’s fully recovered and ready to be adopted.

Bible is charged with animal cruelty and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

North Carolina: CONVICTED MURDERER Clint McQueen, 48, charged after beating dog to death with hammer

NORTH CAROLINA -- An Asheboro man has been charged with felony animal cruelty after allegedly striking a dog in the head with a hammer, according to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.

Clinton Lamont McQueen, 48, was booked earlier this month into the Randolph County Jail under a $20,000 secured bond.

On Jan. 9, authorities responded to 1665 Independence Ave. in Asheboro.

Information obtained by the original call alleged that a dog was struck and killed with a hammer moments before the call was made.

When units arrived on scene they located McQueen and spoke with him about the incident.

While speaking with McQueen, they observed a dog that appeared to be badly injured and suffering from a head injury.

The animal was taken to a local veterinary hospital where it was evaluated and determined the most humane option for the animal was medical euthanasia.

During the scene processing, two hammers were seized.

McQueen posted bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 26.

CLINT MCQUEEN IS A CONVICTED MURDERER

Clinton Lamont McQueen pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Monday, one day before jury selection was to have started in his murder trial.

McQueen, 32, killed Mitchell Ray Maness in May 1999, shooting the Randleman man in the head on Brewer Street after the two began arguing, said King Dozier, assistant district attorney for Randolph County.

The state had planned to seek the death penalty against McQueen, but Dozier said prosecutors had the blessing of Maness' family to accept McQueen's plea to the lesser charge. McQueen was sentenced to at least 15 years in prison.

Three days after the shooting, police arrested McQueen, 717 Russell St., Asheboro. McQueen was also at the time charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of firing a weapon into an occupied vehicle.

According to N.C. Department of Correction records, McQueen had previously served six years in prison on manslaughter and drug convictions. He was released in October 1997.

Note: Of course he'll torture, beat, abuse and kill animals. He's been killing human beings for a decade with no real punishment.

Florida: On probation for Aggravated Animal Cruelty, David Langford, 60, arrested after getting caught with meth

FLORIDA: Back in May 2017, David Langford was arrested and charged with Animal Cruelty.

As is typical with crimes against animals, it appears that Langford was given probation.

Less than two months later, he was arrested and charged with several crimes, all relating to his illegal drugs use.

Langford was back in court this month, charged with violating the terms of his probation (VOP). Hopefully, they'll throw him in the county jail for the rest of his sentence. However, often they simply extend their probation period and send them on their way.

Vehicle Stop Yields Drug Trafficking Arrest
Sarasota Sheriff's Office - Jul 12, 2017

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested two Sarasota men on drug charges after a traffic stop led deputies to discover methamphetamine, prescription pills and drug paraphernalia.

Tactical Unit Deputies first made contact with Edward Jimenez, DOB 05/05/73, just after 3:15 p.m., on Tuesday, when they stopped him for a traffic violation in the intersection of Beneva and Meridale Roads in Sarasota.

During a consensual search of his vehicle, deputies recovered oxycodone in the center console and a lock box under the driver’s seat containing various drug paraphernalia and nearly 10 grams of methamphetamine.

Upon search of the passenger, David Langford, DOB 07/06/57, deputies recovered a pipe, methamphetamine and various prescription pills including hydromorphone, OxyContin and Xanax. Langford also admitted to being responsible for the pill found in the center console.

Both men were arrested and transported to the Sarasota County Jail. Jimenez, of 1821 Bayonne Street, is charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Sell and Possession of Narcotic Equipment. He was released Wednesday on $8,000 bond.

New Mexico: Why does career criminal and animal torturer John Santiago keep getting chance after chance?

NEW MEXICO -- Back in August 2016, John Santiago was accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's apartment, beating and torturing her small Pomeranian named Teddy to death.

When the woman went into her home, she found blood in various parts of the house and dog-shaped dents in the wall and a mirror.

She rushed dying Teddy to an Albuquerque veterinarian, who told her that the dog had been burned all over his body, even his eyes had been burned, he had brain swelling, a facial fracture and missing teeth. Teddy had to be euthanized because of its injuries.

Santiago was on the run for a few months before getting caught. He was charged with extreme animal cruelty, aggravated burglary and tampering with evidence.

For this horrific crime against Teddy, career criminal Santiago was given a year in the county jail (not prison) and then that was supposed to be followed up with 18 months of probation.

Well, we all know that being sentenced to a year in the county jail doesn't mean a year. It really means about 1/3 of that -- 4 months. So Santiago was sprung from jail early and by March 2017, he was arrested again for not bothering to show up for his compliance checks. The judge gave him a $25,000 cash bond and said if he can actually pay that, he'll be required to wear a GPS bracelet.

Well, here we are 8 months later and Santiago has been arrested AGAIN. And it looks like he still can't be bothered to show up to his court dates.

Why does the state of New Mexico keep babying him? Let's remember what he did -- HE TORTURED, BEAT, BURNED AND ABUSED A LITTLE DOG TO DEATH.

Of course, Santiago knows he can do whatever he wants and the courts won't really bother with him. I'm sure they'll give him bond, he'll pay it and disappear again... laughing his way out of the courtroom.

Shame on you, New Mexico.

New Mexico: Attorney General asks judge to sentence con man Shaun Anaya to prison for alleged puppy torture and abuse

NEW MEXICO -- A man who scammed people out of thousands in a rental scheme might finally finish part of his jail sentence, not for his history of renting out foreclosed homes but for allegedly torturing an animal.

The prosecutor from the Attorney General’s Office in District Court Wednesday asked the judge to revoke Shaun Anaya’s probation and to serve two years, saying he violated his probation this summer when he allegedly broke three state laws.

The con man at the hearing Wednesday said he did not brutally beat and mutilate a Pit Bull puppy with power tools in the backseat of his car on June 1, as police allege in a criminal complaint.

“Did you use any power tools on this puppy?” the defense attorney asked Anaya.

“No,” he replied.

SHAUN ANAYA'S STORY:
Anaya said he had finished work installing the flooring at a woman’s house for his family-run construction company around midnight on June 1. He said he drove around to the back of the home to pick up some extra flooring material when he saw about four teenagers crowded around what he thought looked like a sick or injured Pit Bull puppy that had trouble keeping its balance.

He allegedly yelled at the kids, asking what they were doing. He then volunteered to take the puppy to the veterinarian without knowing the owner, according to his testimony.

However, on the way, he said he pulled over to check on the puppy and that’s when police arrived and allegedly accused him of punching and abusing the animal with a drill that Anaya confirmed was in the back of his truck, but said he didn’t use.

The prosecutor, Nicholas Gilbert, asked Anaya when he learned the puppy’s owner was the same woman who owns the home where Anaya was installing the flooring.

Anaya said he had his 20 and 22-year-old daughters reach out to her on Facebook to let her know where he was and to get her phone number so Anaya could call her.

The prosecutor read a transcript of Anaya’s and the woman’s phone call, in which Anaya reportedly asked her to talk to his lawyer, which the prosecutor claimed was conspiracy to commit perjury.

In a separate case in 2013, he pleaded guilty to six counts of larceny, one count of fraud and two of forgery after swindling at least two dozen renters all over Albuquerque by renting out foreclosed properties.

After serving a year in jail of his four-year sentence, he got off with probation, which the Attorney General’s Office says he’s now violated and wants him behind bars for it.

“I ask that he be remanded into custody. He is facing a two-year habitual enhancement,” Gilbert said.

During the June arrest, police found Anaya in possession of marijuana and the AG’s Office also claimed Anaya tried to coerce a witness to come to his defense.

The judge found Anaya violated his probation for the marijuana, but wants more time to look at the evidence before making a decision on the animal cruelty and perjury allegations at the next court date on Dec. 20.

As for the puppy involved, it has since recovered from its injuries and has been adopted.

Kentucky: Tim Canada broke into a house, say police, set it on fire and killed the dog inside by burning it alive

KENTUCKY -- A Williamsburg man accused of setting fire to a home and resulting in the death of a dog was indicted Monday by a Whitley County grand jury.

Timothy Lee Canada, 41, was named in a five-count indictment for charges that allegedly occurred September 24.

According to the indictment, Canada allegedly illegally entered the residence of the victim, identified as Ryan Creech, with intent to commit a crime.

While inside, he located a dog, which was killed after Canada allegedly set fire to the home.

He also allegedly intentionally damaged a 2012 Toyota belonging to Creech, resulting in over $1,000 in damages.

Count one of the indictment charges Canada with second-degree burglary.

Count two of the indictment charges Canada with first-degree arson.

Count three of the indictment charges Canada with first-degree criminal mischief.

Count four of the indictment charges Canada with torture of a dog.

Count five of the indictment charges Canada with second-degree persistent felony offender.

Canada was arrested Monday following the indictment and jailed in the Whitley County Detention Center. JailTracker records show that he has been placed under a $75,000 cash bond. A court date has yet to be scheduled.

An indictment is a formal charge by a grand jury; it is not a conviction or an admission of guilt.
