Kentucky: Jaron Lockridge, 28, accused of using insecticide to torture and kill various pets

KENTUCKY -- An Elizabethtown man is facing Misdemeanor charges after police say he used bug killer and a belt to torture various pets.

According to an arrest warrant, the incidents took place between April 1 and Sept. 25 in Hardin County.

Police say that in April, a woman saw 28-year-old Jaron Lockridge spray Spectacide Bug Stop bug killer on the dog food provided to his roommate's German Shepherd.

As a result of eating the food, police say the dog became very sick and continued to vomit. The dog eventually lost 20 pounds, and as of October, was still struggling to eat.

In June, police say Lockridge took a small red belt out of a woman's dress, wrapped it around the neck of one of his roommate's cats and lifted the cat off the ground, choking it for about 30 seconds.

Lockridge was allegedly, "laughing the entire time he was committing this act."

Lockridge's alleged crimes didn't end there. In September, police say he got mad at his roommate, and sprayed Spectacide Bug Stop bug killer into his roommate's fish tank.

Police say he shot "three big squirts" of the bug killer into the tank. As a result, nine small white fish, two mini fresh-water lobsters and one eel were poisoned to death.

A warrant was issued for Lockridge's arrest on Oct. 12. He was taken into custody Sunday afternoon.

He's charged with second degree cruelty to animals and torturing a dog or cat.

Lockridge is currently being held in the Hardin County Detention Center.

Jaron is married to Rachel Ann Lockridge. They announced the birth of their baby, Emma, in 2009. I hope Child Protective Services is doing an investigation as Jaron's actions clearly mark him as a deviant with mental health issues. Also, the judge should order that he not be around ANY animals until a disposition in court regarding these cruelty charges.

Jaron and Rachel Lockridge of Bardstown announce the birth of a daughter, Emma Lee Lockridge on April 24, 2009, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces and was 19 ¼ inches long.

A website called topix has a thread running in which someone claiming to be Jaron Lockridge posted:

Jaron, Elizabethtown KY: Well well well I should have known my name would have came up on here. And truth be told it's all lies. The real animal abuser is the owner who beats his dog for using the bathroom in the house. Also never cleans the cat box but once a month. I have never in my life have gotten in trouble for anything other than speeding. It's funny how news papers and media changes everything around. Also I have adopted a few animals in my days. In addition, I have raised chickens and ducks from eggs. I bet any of you true low life's could even think of running a farm as well. Truth is justice will show I'm not guilty of any charges. Thanks for the support

You all are losing it over fish wtf. The dog is 100% fine nothing happened to the dog. While kill shelters kill thousands of animals each year. We drain the ocean of all living creatures at an astonishing rate yet no one bats a eye. Everyone so fast to be the judge and jury over something you know nothing about.

Australia: Renters with a child lived in squalor, destroyed home, killed their pet fish and turtle and then ran off

AUSTRALIA -- The rancid odor of the home carried through to the street – but even that wasn't enough warning for a landlord who has been 'gutted' by the state of a home he rented out to a couple who were 'down on their luck'.

Theo Iliou from Darwin has described his heartache as he opened the door to the home he and his wife Monica bought as an investment for their six children.

'I only got as far as the dining area, and wasn't brave enough to look any further,' Mr Iliou told Daily Mail Australia.

The landlord knew there would be some cleaning up to do because the yard was overgrown but he wasn't expecting animal faeces all over the floor or mountains of garbage lining the walls.

'We went there with a bin to tidy the yard but because we hadn't even opened the house yet and were getting a nasty smell I knew the inside of the house would be worse. I peeked through the windows but because I could only see limited areas I wasn't prepared.'

It was an assault on his senses.

'Honestly when I was in there my main concern was for my health and not the house – I didn't feel safe walking into that environment.

He only knows what most of the house looked like because of pictures taken by a cleaner.

Inside one of the bedrooms was a large fish tank – when the lid was opened it was obvious there was something dead inside.

Further inspection revealed rotting fish and a dead turtle in the thick stagnant water.

Mr Iliou thought at first the damage had been caused as an act of vandalism after he evicted the couple – and their young child with six week notice because they were continuously falling behind on the rent.

But then he found evidence the family just lived in squalor.

'There was a Christmas tree in one of the piles of rubbish that had been there since December last year. The most heart-breaking thing was coming across kids toys and Dvds because it was a constant reminder that there was a child living in the house.'

The home was being rented out for $650 per week when the tenants moved in two years ago.

Which the Iliou family thought they would have no trouble affording as the male tenant was earning $75,000 per year as a head chef and his wife was also employed. But when they fell behind in rent and told the Iliou family they were going through a hard time it was reduced by one hundred dollars.

It was further reduced by another hundred dollars when they had more difficulties.

Mrs Iliou is devastated that the couple who they took a chance on repaid them by leaving their home in such a huge mess.

'When my husband go to the house he called me and told me not to come,' she said. 'But I did and I thought I would have a quick look.

'I could smell it before I got there it was like the smell of a rubbish bin that had been left in the sun for a week. I went inside the house for about 30 seconds and then I had to leave to throw up.'

'There was a rabbit cage inside the house, and different droppings everywhere. They had dogs inside and there was hair over everything.'

It took five skip bins to clean up the property.

'We tried to cut the grass outside with a slasher but it kept getting caught so we had to bring in a back hoe. The whole yard is dirt now.'

It took the cleaners two days to get rid of the putrid mess left behind.

'I would have done it myself if I didn't have so many kids to look after. But it would have taken me weeks and I would have had to keep stopping to throw up – I don't know how they did it.'

The family have not heard from their past tenants – but left a message with the real-estate agents – which had been employed to evict them – apologising for the mess.

'Sorry about the state of house never got around to cleaning it,' the message read.

The Iliou family were forced to remove a toilet as well as the oven and stove because it was so filthy.

The stove had maggots on it and the toilet was deemed too dirty and blocked to deal with.

The family have already spent $5,000 on cleaning up the mess and were owed more than $10,000 in rent.

Japan: Mom forces daughter to eat 30 dead pet goldfish in sadistic child abuse

JAPAN -- A teenage girl was forced to eat 30 dead goldfish by her mother and the woman's partner as one of a series of sadistic assaults, police have revealed.

The couple killed the girl's pet fish by pouring detergent in their tank and then served them up, ordering the daughter to, "Eat them all," according to Kurume police officials.

The couple were both arrested and indicted last year for physically assaulting the teenager, including tying her to a bed with rope, punching her in the face and burning her tongue with cigarettes. They were rearrested Feb. 16 over the goldfish incident and charged with duress.

The goldfish incident happened in June 2015 at the apartment the three shared after the couple criticized the teenager over the feeding of the pets.

Unemployed mother Yuko Ogata and her self-employed partner Takashi Egami, both 46, are currently on trial on several charges, including confining the daughter resulting in injury.

Ogata has admitted the new charge, while Egami has denied having played a role in the abuse.

Fort Wayne man accused of stomping rabbit to death

INDIANA -- They were fighting, as they had done in the past.

The woman told her fiancé to leave the home so he could calm down – that just made him angrier.

So the woman told him she'd just take the kids and leave for the night – and that's when he flew off the handle.

In front of his children, Austin J. Witek is accused of grabbing the family's pet rabbit, throwing it on the ground and stomping it to death.

He's also accused of smashing in a fish tank and trying to stomp the family's fish to death as well.

By the time Fort Wayne police officers arrived at the 25-year-old's home in the 1300 block of High Street on Friday afternoon, they were greeted by distraught children, a scared woman and a combination of rabbit and fish corpses.

"He killed my bunny!" one of the children screamed at officers, according to a Fort Wayne Police Department report.

Witek's fiancé told officers the couple were fighting and that at one point she said she'd take the children so "he can be at home with the animals," according to the police report.

Witek, with the couple's children looking on, grabbed the rabbit, threw it to the floor and began stomping the animal.

Immediately afterward, he used a liquor bottle in his hand to shatter a fish tank, spilling gallons of water on the floor.

Animal Care & Control eventually arrived and were able to save some of the fish, according to a police report.

Witek's fiancé also accused him of trying to keep her from calling police by taking a phone out of her hand, the report said.

When talking with officers, Witek admitted he "snapped" and shouldn't have done what he did, according to the police report.

Officers took photos of the home, which they described as dirty with rabbit droppings as well as "cluttered" and "very messy."

Witek was taken to Allen County Jail and preliminarily charged with a felony count of animal cruelty and a misdemeanor count of interfering with the reporting of a crime.

He was ordered to have no contact with his fiancée upon his release, court records said.

Men face jail in boiling water, hammer attacks on dogs

MICHIGAN -- A Bay City man told authorities he did not know what to do after spilling hot water on his pet schnauzer. So he took the dog outside and ran it over twice, killing it, authorities said.

Aaron Bellor, 22, has been charged with animal cruelty, which carries a possible four-year prison sentence for a conviction, according to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office. Bellor’s case is one of two bizarre animal cruelty cases the sheriff’s office has been investigating.

Bellor’s dog, named Sassy, had been given to him by friends or family because they could no longer keep it, according to Bay County Sheriff’s Lt. Jim Chlebowski.

Bellor told authorities he was making grits with boiling water around Jan. 22 and inadvertently knocked the pan over on his Schnauzer Sassy, scalding it. Supposedly not knowing what to do, he left his house with the injured dog and drove from Bay City to neighboring Portsmouth Township, Chlebowski said.

Once he arrived, he put the dog down, and ran the pooch over with his car. As the dog laid there still breathing, the 22-year-old finished the job by running over the dog one more time. Bay County Sheriff’s Lt. Jim Chlebowski said that it didn't look like the dog's injuries were too severe and that a veterinarian would have been able to treat it. This all could have been avoided.

Bellor is accused of dropping the dog on the ground and then running it over with his car. When he realized that the dog was not dead, he ran it over a second time, Chlebowski said, noting that the dog’s injuries from the boiling water were not too severe.

“If he’d have taken the dog to the veterinarian, the dog could have been treated,” Chlebowski said.
Bellor told a number of people he was sorry he killed the dog, Chlebowski said.

In an unrelated case, Derek Keyes, 50, also of Bay City, is charged with animal cruelty and faces a potential 15-year sentence because he is a felon. He was also on probation Feb. 8 when, Chlebowski said, he attacked his roommate’s pit bull with a hammer.

Keyes, who was highly intoxicated, was upset that his roommate had not paid the rent, so he dumped detergent into his roommate’s fish tank, killing the fish, and then took the pit bull, named Lizzy, into the basement and hit it repeatedly with a hammer, Chlebowski said.

The pit bull is expected to survive.
