TEXAS -- El Paso police arrested two brothers after a pit bull charged at officers and was shot and killed. Officers on Friday responded to a call about a dog charging at people in Central El Paso on the 200 block of Hadlock street about 9 p.m.
Police said they found the dog, a pit bull, and its owner, Marcos Enriquez Hernandez, outside a home.
When an officer was talking with Hernandez, 25, he lost control of the dog and it charged at the officer, police said.
The officer drew his firearm, officials said.
At that point, police said, Hernandez allegedly grabbed the officer's gun.
The officer and Hernandez struggled.
During the struggle, Hernandez allegedly punched the officer in the chest and kicked him in the lower leg. While they struggled, the pit bull charged other officers and attempted to bite them.
Another officer, shot and killed the dog.
Police then began to place Hernandez under arrest on suspicion of attempting to take a weapon from a peace officer and assaulting a public servant.
As police arrested Hernandez, another man, identified as Leonardo Enriquez Hernandez, allegedly grabbed one of the officers by the neck in an attempt to pull him off of Marcos Hernandez. Police arrested both men.
Police said Marcos Enriquez Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of attempting to take a weapon from a peace officer and assault on a public servant.
He was booked into the El Paso Count jail and is bonds totaled $4,000.
Leonardo Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of interference with an officer's public duties.
He was booked into the El Paso County jail on a $300 bond.
