NEW YORK -- An Oswego County couple is facing animal cruelty charges after moving and leaving behind two small dogs in "unlivable conditions," state police said.
Around 11 a.m. Sunday, someone reported the dogs had been left unattended and a foul odor was emanating from the home at 12 Dunlap Road in the town of Richland, troopers said in a news release.
When troopers arrived, they found the dogs inside a home filled with their feces and urine "all over the floor," the release said.
"It appeared no one was currently living in the residence," state police said.
Troopers found the owner, Dawn Harrington, who told them she and her husband had moved and were unable to take the dogs with them to their new home in Pulaski, according to state police.
Town of Richland Dog Control Officer Elisa Dunn arrived at the home in Richland and took both dogs, which were unlicensed and in conditions determined to be "unlivable," state police said.
State police charged Dawn M. Harrington and Frank U. Harrington, both 39, of Centerville Road in Pulaski, with misdemeanor cruelty to animals. They were issued appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 4th in Richland Town Court.
