North Carolina: Next door neighbor "rescues" pit bulls. They've attacked her, killed her dog and now they've attacked her daughter

NORTH CAROLINA -- Andrea Long Jackson posted on Facebook February 25, 2017

My daughter Amber was attacked by the neighbors pit bull this evening. One of the same bunch (pack) that attacked me & Chaos a couple months ago.

We just got home from the ER. They done fucked up. Seeing the Lawyer Monday. THESE are the idiots that are the reason WHY Pit Bulls have such a bad rep. If you can't control your fucking dogs...you shouldn't be able to own them. Mama's seriously pissed. BEYOND pissed but sad also. I HATE having to contribute to the bad statistics concerning Pit Bulls. I love my pittiebabies...but after all this...I don't think I'll be getting anymore in the future.  :(

Ricki Rogers Williams - I bet that scared her to death! How is she doing?

Andrea Long Jackson - She's doing ok right now. She's in pain and wondering how she's gonna do her job come Monday. Lou, I don't think I ever posted when they attacked me. The 4 ( or 5) pits next door broke thru the fence when I was outside with Chaos. I was laying over top of him to keep the dogs from attacking him and one of the dogs peeled a couple strips of my scalp. We ended up having to have Chaos put down. He had gotten a few deep punctures that went thru his skull (frontal lobe). He had almost immediate personality changes and became extremely aggressive.

I blame these idiots for everything. They KNOW their dogs can JUMP a 6ft fucking privacy fence...use their bodies as battering rams to break the fence...and attack any dog they see. Usually one of mine. I'm done with this. We're pressing charges & seeing the lawyer on Monday. Animal Control seized the one dog that bit Amber and it will be euthanized since this is the 2nd documented attack. Now... the remaining ones need to go. I love Pitties. Anyone that knows me knows this... but this pack is dangerous

Mimi Zimmerman - I hope you got a police report. That will help.

Mimi Zimmerman - Poor amber. It's not the dog, it's how they raised the dog. People like that should not have dogs. And if you know your dog is aggressive then have a fenced in yard so people don't hurt tell amber I'm praying for a speedy recovery.

Andrea Long Jackson - Mimi, the neighbor lady volunteers at the Hoke City Animal Control. All these pits are ones she has "rescued". Ticking time bombs  :( I'm all for rescue...but sadly, you have no idea what that dog has been thru or what "triggers" they have.

Amber Rhoades - Both our yards are fenced with a 6ft privacy fence but the side we share is in disrepair and they've known since they moved in that it needed fixing since it's legally their fence but they haven't done anything the fence jumping is a new thing the one called Titus learn how to do just this week he clears it like it's an Olympic event...he's the one that got taken. I'm okay just now starting to feel pain from the stitches and took some meds, Dante our foster dog is okay a little shaken but in good spirits he's has some superficial wounds around his ear and chest thankfully he's going to his new home tmrw he's had a rough week I'm just glad he didn't get hurt worse ??

Arizona: Woman and her support dog attacked by pit bull; she got stuck with a $2,000 vet bill

ARIZONA -- A Valley woman and her service dog are recovering after she says they were attacked by another dog during a walk through their neighborhood.

They never found the owner, so the woman reached out to us to share her story, and hopefully get people to think twice before letting their pets roam free.

"I got him in 2009," said Pama Tucker, O’Grady’s owner.

The Lhasa Apso mix is Tucker’s emotional support dog.

"Without him, I'd be up a tree," said Tucker.

In late January, the two were out for a walk. Tucker says a pit bull running loose came at them, biting O’Grady on the neck and ear, and knocking her down.

"He was in my lap, bleeding all over the place and I was just trying to comfort him," she said. "It's indescribable that fear that I felt. I could not help my dog."

Tucker and her neighbors rushed him to the vet.

"He had about eight puncture wounds. His canine tooth was broken," said Tucker.

Tuckers says Maricopa County Animal Care and Control picked up the other dog, but never found the owner.

Now Tucker has a message for all pet owners, especially those who let their animals roam.

"No matter what breed it is, you are responsible for taking care of that dog, and you accept the responsibility of keeping people safe," she said.

The ordeal cost nearly $2,000 in vet bills, which Tucker’s neighbors graciously helped pay for. She's hoping she can one day reimburse them, so she's set up a GoFundMe account.

On January 22, 2017, this is how my dog, O'Grady, looked at the start of the day.  Then, around 6:00 pm while outside in his own yard, he was attacked by a running loose pit bull.  It happened so quickly, I didn't know what to do!  I started to scream at the same time I tried to make the pit bull loosen its gripe.  I am disabled and was using my crutch to hit the pit bull on the head - nothing was working.  Grady was crying by now and struggling to get loose.  That sound is etched in my heart.  The picture of Grady's head enveloped by the pit bull's locked jaw is a nightmare I can't get rid of!

Finally, people started coming out of their homes in answer to my screams for help.  About this time, I went into shock and no longer knew what was going on.  This was the time the pit bull knocked me down.  From this point forward, all I knew was I was on the ground and Grady was in my lap.  Grady's was covered in blood and his breathing was labored.

My family from across the street raced over to me and reached down to pick Grady up to put him in their car to take him to the emergency vet.  Meanwhile, the fire department arrived to check on me since the pit bull had knocked me down.

They helped me stand again but all I could think of was my injured dog and I had to be with him and I refused further treatment - it was later on I discovered how many bruises I had suffered.

Treatment for Grady seemed to last for many hours.  I was so scared for him.  Grady is my companion and is my emotional service dog.  My disabilities can keep me isolated but Grady makes sure I go outside multiple times a day.  He listens to my troubles and gives my love no matter what.  If I lost him, my motivation would also be lost.

Grady suffered at least 8 punctures and a broken canine tooth.  Between the initial treatment from the emergency vet on the eve of the 22nd to the follow up, subsequent surgery and prescriptions, the amount to treat him was approximately $2000.00.

I had to borrow this money from my family because I am disabled and am on a very fixed income.  I am so very grateful my family, who also are disabled, could take care of my boy but they must be paid back as soon as possible.  I love my Grady and it is my responsibility to care for him.  I keep asking myself why did this happen, what could I have done to prevent this but I'm not getting any answers!

I need your help, please!  Those who love your animals know how this feels!  If any one out there has experienced this type of attack, I'm so sorry but you know how this feels.  Please, please help me pay back the angels who came to my financial rescue.

Florida: Toddler hospitalized after dog attack in Florida City

FLORIDA -- A 3-year-old girl is on the road to recovery after, police said, she was attacked by a neighbor’s large dog that had escaped from her neighbor’s Florida City home, Friday night.

According to Florida City Police, Sani Julian and her father, Michael Green, were walking to a nearby convenience store to buy milk when a mastiff mix bit the girl, just before 8:30 p.m.

Investigators said the canine escaped its home by tearing through a gate. The 2-year-old animal ran outside the residence, located along the 1200 block of Northwest Eighth Place, and lunged at the victim.

Green said he did everything he could to get Zeus, his neighbor’s pet, off his daughter, to no avail. “I hit him inside the head, but that didn’t do no good. He was aggressive,” he said.

Green told 7News the dog’s owner came to help. They both tried to stop the mauling, but officials said the animal bit Sani on her back, side and one of her legs.

“It took him a while to get [the dog] off, about four or five minutes,” said Green.

When asked to describe Zeus’ size, Green said estimated the animal’s weight to be about “80, 75 pounds.”

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue airlifted the girl to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where she underwent emergency surgery. Something about her appendix, they’ve got to cut open,” said Green.

Sani is currently recovering in the intensive care unit and is listed in fair condition. Saturday morning, the toddler’s mother said she was awake and talking.

Zeus’ owner surrendered his pet to Miami-Dade Animal Services. 7News cameras captured the animal being taken out of its home and placed into a van.

Detectives interviewed the owner of the dog, as well as the girl’s father. Animal Services cited the owner with having a loose dog and the attack on the child, as well as for not having the animal up to date on its rabies vaccine.

Animal Services officials confirmed Zeus was euthanized on Saturday after his owner signed off on it.

Hawaii: Makaha 'no kill' animal rescue operator David Moore cited for 310 COUNTS of animal cruelty

HAWAII -- It’s been months since hundreds of animals were rescued from a Makaha no-kill shelter.

Now, owner David Moore (aka Lanny Moore) of Friends for Life has been slapped with hundreds of counts of animal cruelty.

Moore was first arrested back in October 2016 after the Hawaiian Humane Society secured a warrant and seized 310 dogs and several rabbits from his property that were found to be living in “inhumane conditions.” Moore was later released pending investigation.

Now, the HHS says it’s gathered enough evidence to cite him as well as his mother June Moore.

The HHS is deputized by the Honolulu Police Department, so it has the authority to cite anyone for animal cruelty misdemeanors. The humane society tells us that it has gathered enough evidence against the shelter and wants to take them to trial.

The goal is to move the animals rescued from the shelter into permanent homes as fast as possible. Of the 310 dogs seized, over 200 of them are currently with foster families.

This is the largest investigation the Hawaiian Humane Society has done to date. We’re told investigators found many of the animals covered in feces and urine, with no food or water, and rodents running around the property and feeding on dog food.

We spoke with the Moore family attorney who says he will fight the citation and insists the mother and son did not abuse the animals. “We’re definitely asking for a trial,” Paul Cunney said. “We’re not caving in at all.

“To me, it’s not right, for all the good work they do in the community, that they be treated like this,” he said. “I think it’s going to be an uphill battle for the humane society to prosecute these alleged violations.”

Allison Gammel of the Hawaiian Humane Society says “our top priority is the health of these animals. We just want to make sure we want to put these animals in permanent homes as quickly as possible.”

The Moores are each facing 310 counts of animal cruelty in the second degree. Each misdemeanor faces penalties of up to $2,000 in fines and up to one year in jail.
