The office said Wednesday that Hartford Officer Logan Scelza was reasonable in his belief that killing the dog was "reasonably necessary" to prevent injury to his dog.
Scelza brought two huskies to the Watson Upper Valley Dog Park in Hartford on June 25. His dogs and the pit bull were off leash when the pit bull bit and latched onto one husky's neck.
The report says Scelza tried pulling the dogs apart and repeatedly struck the pit bull, then fired warning shots - without success - before shooting the pit bull. He fired seven rounds during the incident.
Scelza's dog was treated for throat injuries.
