Erica Palmer charged with aggravated animal cruelty

TENNESSEE -- A 40-year-old woman has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty after police found numerous mistreated dogs in her backyard.

Erica Palmer was arrested after police found several pit bulls at her house at 5375 Haleville Monday.

One dead pit bull was found behind the house along with four other malnourished dogs, two of which were chained to a fence while two others ran loose. Police also found a litter of eight newborn puppies.

The dogs did not have any shelter, nor was there any sign of food or water, police said. The dogs were placed with Memphis Animal Services.

Palmer was released on $2,500 bond. She is due back in court Dec. 21.
