Georgia: "My Irish Terrier was attacked by a Pit Bull today"

GEORGIA -- Betty Lamptey posted on Facebook March 16, 2018 ·

My Irish Terrier was attacked by a Pit bull today.

None of the men watching offered assistance, although I've seen them play and interact with this dog many times. One little boy ran outside with a bat ready to help. Luckily my son heard me yelling, so he ran downstairs and punched the dog in the face several times.

Those so-called men who heard me and saw the whole attack, only intervened when my son was helping by trying to put the pit to sleep..... Then the clouds came threw and it hailed for 5 minutes.

These men are not men. And have the nerve to keep asking for my phone number, and what Im doing on the weekend. Im baking brownies for the little boy who had guts to try to help.

Rico is ok, scared and a few puncture wounds but he will be fine. He has barricaded himself inside his crate..... But im so thankful it wasn't worse.

Dee Muhammad - he's loose again. call the police

California: Owners flee with their Pit Bull after it mauls small dog; only return to speak with police after witness follows them to their home

CALIFORNIA -- Deborah Craigo added 2 new photos to Facebook February 24, 2018 · San Diego, CA ·

Pit bull not on a leash attacked a small dog that was on her leash.

I don't care about your sympathy toward those dogs, after seeing that pit chomp on that dogs neck while the owners were punching it to let go, and then attack its legs and everyone using beach chairs to try to keep it away, then it ran out into the road.

Yeah, what if that were a baby, well.. it's this lady's baby, she's in tears and the fuckers with the pit bull finally put it on a leash and ran away. Fuck you! Cowards!

Deborah Craigo - Neighbor is checking on the dog this morning. Said the owners of the pit only came back after one of the girls had followed them to their house and reported to the police where they lived, that apparently they saw her and were like gone, took off and she didn't believe they honestly had any intention of coming back until they saw her follow them, used the excuse that they were putting the dog in their house and planned on coming back. Not sure why it took two of them to do it but okay, and then she said that both of the pits owners were bit as well and had blood all over them. What a lovely dog eh? Here we have a one bite rule, which means the dog will definitely be put down. Probably why they ran.

Deborah Craigo - Lets just say they sat out there with the small dog for an hour while they waited for the police, and the owners hadn't come back that entire time.

Canada: "The pit bull broke his chain collar and in an instant had Charlie in his mouth crushing him with his jaws before I had a chance to get to him"

CANADA -- Melinda May Matthews posted on Facebook February 21, 2018 ·

Taylor my nine year old daughter and I watched in horror today when a loose pit bull fatally attacked our precious little 5 lb dog Charlie who was tied to a post for his morning ritual pee.

We stood there helplessly crying and begging for it to stop as it was happening in front of our eyes.

The pit bull broke his chain collar and in an instant had Charlie in his mouth crushing him with his jaws before I had a chance to get to him.

We will forever have nightmares of the squeals that came out of my precious little Charlie. The owner had to punch his Pit Bull in the head several times before it released Charlie, once released there wasn't any more squeals just twitching.

My Charlie died on the way to the animal hospital today. My family and I are devastated this preventable accident happened.

Owners of aggressive dogs towards other animals please wear a muzzle on your dog. Charlie would be sitting beside me right now because he was my shadow and the dog that attacked him would also be alive. Heartbroken 💔

Texas: Boy, 4, recovering after being attacked by his aunt's five Pit Bulls

TEXAS -- This little boy was attacked by his mom's sister's five Pit Bulls, dogs that he had played with and often been around. What this article doesn't mention is that this little boy's parents bred and sold Pit Bulls.

After two weeks in the hospital, four-year-old Zion is back home — but he has a lot of healing left to do.

“He’s excited to be out of the hospital,” his mother Tiffany McHan told People magazine.

“We’re still taking precautions so he doesn’t further injure himself. He’s eating and he’s going to the bathroom. He has a long recovery, but he’s in good spirits.”

Zion was attacked by five dogs— all
pit bulls —on Dec. 8 outside his aunt’s house
 in Liberty, Texas.

Zion was playing outside his aunt’s Liberty, Texas, home with his cousin on Dec. 8 when one of her pit bulls pounced on Zion and several others quickly joined in. Zion’s cousin ran to tell their parents what happened.

His father, Trevion, did his best to fight off the animals, but before he could free his son, the boy had sustained serious injuries.

“When I saw Zion freed, I picked him up and ran into the house,” Tiffany told People. “There was blood everywhere. I didn’t think he was gonna make it. I remember him telling me, ‘Mommy, I’m okay. I’m okay.’”

After the attack, little Zion was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. Doctors there found he had a fractured skull, damage to his ears, several lacerations on his face and internal damage to the right side of his head, among other injuries.

What his dad says on their gofundmepage:
"his cousin swings open door and his crying uncontrollably but utters the dogs are eating Zion. I ran for my life for my son life to the backyard were i see across the yard 5 pit bulls are attacking him pulling his little body every which way by the time I make it to him, I'm picking dogs up and body slamming them I'm punching and screaming it scared the dogs away from Zion my wife made it outside by the time the dogs disburse and was able to take zion from me and into the house. the dogs turned the aggression towards me I fought them off while their mouth are still stained red with his blood just traumatized at what i'm seeing before realizing i need to check on my son forget the dogs. I make it inside and he's covered in blood there's gashes all over his head n face, eye is split, both his ears are hanging from his head there's a gash by ear and jawbone that's showing his jawbone"

Zion could see that the attack had disfigured him.

Not discounting the pain he's going through, but he doesn't
look that bad compared to other Pit Bull attacks

“We still have a difficult road ahead. It’s heartbreaking and some days… [it is] unbearable to deal with the obvious changes in his physical appearance,” Rochele Howard says of her grandson Zion. “But there are moments… moments when he is singing, dancing and playing. There is so much that went wrong that day and so much more that could have gone wrong. He survived.”

“Watching [Zion] in the hospital was hard at first,” said Rochele. “When he first saw himself in mirror, he said he was ugly and that he looked weird.

“Now that he will have permanent visual injuries, I worry about how people will treat him. He survived the attack from the dogs but now he has to deal with people and sometimes they cause more damage and pain than the dogs.”

In a photo shared on Facebook by his grandmother, Zion stands next to his father as they leave the hospital room. Zion’s face is obviously twisted – the result of nerve damage caused by the dogs.

McHan’s sister, who owned the dogs, has surrendered them to Liberty police and they have been euthanized, McHan says. The family does not plan to press charges, she adds.

What about their pit bulls?

Zion’s parents have created a GoFundMe page to get assistance with his medical expenses.

The incident marks the second tragedy for the family in recent months. In October, the family’s Houston apartment was destroyed during Hurricane Harvey and the family has been living in a hotel. Mchan said the family escaped the floodwaters on a small boat.

“That’s nothing compared to going through this,” McHan previously told PEOPLE. “But now we don’t have anywhere for our baby to go.”

New York: While working at a boarding and grooming business Alexis Malone was caught on camera abusing dogs. She's now been charged with animal cruelty

NEW YORK -- An employee at a Gates dog daycare and boarding facility is facing charges of animal cruelty for the mistreatment and abuse of dogs.

On Tuesday, the Humane Law Enforcement Department at Lollypop Farm received a security video showing Dog E. Woggy’s West's daycare and boarding facility’s kennel areas.

In the video, 25-year-old Alexis Malone, of Churchville, can be seen striking a dog and dragging dogs by the neck and collar, according to Lollypop.

Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Malone had been abusing pets in the facility’s care.

Malone is no longer employed by Dog E. Woggy’s West.

Malone had been ordered to appear in Gates Town Court on Dec. 12 to face three charges of torturing and injuring animals.

In a Facebook statement from the owner and management at Dog E. Woggy's West, they said they have "followed through in investigating and addressing any concerns regarding any suspected employee misconduct or mistreatment of our clients family members at DEW West. Over the last several weeks, multiple agencies have worked together to look deeply into video surveillance the very moment an issue was brought to our attention. It seems we can pinpoint where it started and when it ended.

"Said employee is no longer employed by DEW West and faces animal cruelty counts in Monroe County. Any mistreatment (even the grabbing of collars) of any pet is not OK. IT IS NOT OK. I assure you steps are being taken to make sure this does not happen in any other establishment."

The business added that additional cameras are now in place.

Indiana: Appeals court upholds animal cruelty convictions against Charles Clark, who was caught on video torturing, stomping and beating his then-girlfriend's dog

INDIANA -- A southern Indiana woman set up a video camera in her house in an attempt to catch her boyfriend cheating on her with another woman.

Instead, she recorded him torturing her dog, Dudley, by putting the animal in a chokehold and repeatedly punching it in the rib cage.

In another video clip, the boyfriend, Charles P. Clark, of Aurora, was seen stomping on the dog as it sat on the couch.

Aurora Police Sgt. Shane Slack called the March 2017 incident “one of the worst cases I’ve seen in 13 years as far as animal abuse.”

On Wednesday, Clark had his Level 6 felony convictions on two counts of cruelty to an animal upheld by the Indiana Court of Appeals.

At a May 25, 2017, sentencing hearing, Clark, 43, admitted to the offenses but claimed he couldn’t remember them due to a blackout from medication he was taking for mental health problems. He also testified that he was unemployed and had four children from two previous marriages.

Clark had been sentenced by Dearborn Superior Court Judge Sally McLaughlin on each count to 910 days in jail with 365 days suspended to probation on each count. He effectively received a sentence of [just] 1-1/2 years’ imprisonment.

Clark appealed, saying his sentence was inappropriate in light of the nature of the offenses and his character.

In upholding the sentence, the appellate court found that Clark said he was seeking mental health treatment but had presented no evidence he was on medication at the time of the incident.

Attempts by CNHI to reach Clark’s defense attorney in Madison were unsuccessful.

Edited for length:  Court of Appeals of Indiana | Memorandum Decision 15A05-1706-CR-1432 | November 22, 2017. Click here to read in its entirety.

FACTS AND PROCEDURAL HISTORY
On March 20, 2017, Clark’s girlfriend reported to the Aurora Police Department, in Indiana, that Clark had been abusing their dog, a rescued boxer breed, named Dudley.

She presented Sergeant Shane Slack (Sergeant Slack) with videos that she had secretly recorded in an attempt to catch Clark cheating on her with another woman “because he had been acting different lately.”

The videos depicted Clark picking “the dog up and slam[ming] it [in]to the couch and then put[ting] it in a choke hold and begin[ing] to punch it repeatedly in the rib cage.”

The animal attempted to escape the punishment and was crying.

In another clip of the video, Clark is observed “stomping down on the dog as it was sitting on the floor below him on the couch.”

After reviewing the videos, Sergeant Slack declared this to be “one of the worst cases I’ve seen in thirteen years as far as animal abuse.”

Police officers arrested Clark at his home, where he admitted that he had abused the animal but [claimed] that “afterwards he feels bad about it.”

DISCUSSION AND DECISION
Clark severely beat, punched, and strangled a helpless dog without any
provocation. The animal was a family pet and the senseless violence occurred
on more than one occasion. While the visible injuries may have healed, Dudley continued to experience mental scars for a significant period of time after Clark relinquished the dog.

Dudley’s current owner, who adopted him approximately a week later, testified that Dudley, at first, was “very guarded” and “depressed.”  “It was like he was afraid to do anything except lay or sit. He was just scared.”

For a time, Dudley experienced “quite violent nightmares,” during which he cried out loud and shook all over.

Even though Clark admitted that he had abused Dudley after being confronted with the video recordings; nevertheless, during the sentencing hearing, Clark attempted to present himself as the victim by claiming that he had blacked out because of medication. However, besides his own self-serving statement, he presented no evidence that he was on any medication at the time of the offenses. While it is commendable that Clark has accepted his mental health problems and is seeking help, this acknowledgment is a bit late for Dudley.

CONCLUSION
Based on the foregoing, we hold that the trial court’s imposed sentence is not inappropriate in light of the nature of the offenses and Clark’s character.

Affirmed.

New Hampshire: Police determine man walking his Labrador was justified in shooting, killing Pit Bull that was attacking them

NEW HAMPSHIRE -- Manchester police said a shooting that left a pit bull dead was justified and no charges have been filed.

Officers responded to the area of South Taylor Street and South Belmont Street on Oct. 21 at about 9:30 a.m. for report of a dog owner having to shoot a pit bull that was attacking his dog on his porch.

Richard D’Amour was walking his 5 year old lab mix, named Molly through his neighborhood. He observed two loose and aggressive pit bulls ahead of him. He turned toward his home and began to run with his dog.

The two pit bulls gave chase after D’Amour and his dog. A passerby who had witnessed this incident attempted to turn his vehicle in the path of the dogs to slow them but was unsuccessful.

D’Amour made it to his rear porch when the larger pit bull identified as “Luigi” attacked and latched onto the side of Molly’s face.

The man and the witness tried to get the two dogs apart but were unable. The bystander was repeatedly closed-fist punching the Pit Bull in the face, to no effect.

The Labrador's owner, Mr. D'Amour,  then drew a pistol and fired one round into the pit bull's upper torso, killing the dog.

No people were hurt in the incident and independent witnesses confirmed the story.

The pit bull's owner, Adam Philbert, cooperated with the investigation. He CLAIMED his dogs had gotten out and he was trying to find them when the incident happened. However, Mr. D'Amour says this same Pit Bull had attacked his dog a few months ago.

Animal Control is supposedly investigating. Really, someone should investigate Animal control to find out why they did NOTHING after the first attack.

Kathy Wyatt - If it was a Shepard ,or new findlin, or even a mutt they would just say a dog was shot today ... Pit bulls get a bad rap just like rotties and doberman Pinchers did. [I think she is trying to say Newfoundland and instead wrote "new findlin"]

Pitbulls-Just Say No - Oh please. Want some cheese with that whine? Typical psychopath pitidiots with no concern of people/pets being attacked by pits..only worried about the pits "bad rap". Well it's well earned by the dogs and the owners.

Tanya Mitchell - Omg my mean vicious pit bull is gonna kill everything lmfao, people are so retarded, get educated, my lab has a better chance of biting someone, owners need to take responsibility, make sure your dog of any breed, is not able to escape, your chances of being killed or hurt by a human are greater then a pit bull, people suck!

Courtney Paige Sarantis - The man could be lying and killed the pit bull because he hates those dogs why let him loose? Because u also dislike pit bulls? I’ve never in my life 32 years have I ever met a vicious pit bull! I’ve had lick attacks

Sherri E. Griggs-Siemieniewski - Witness questioned separately confirmed his story verbatim. I'm sorry but there are all kinds of vicious dogs not just pitbulls. If any dog attacked my dog and wasn't leashed that would be a dead dog no matter what breed

Michael York - While riding my donkey Handy I had a pit bull attack Handy. Scratch one pit bull. Handy just kicked that dog one time. Owner came flying out of her house mad as he'll. She said her dog was just being friendly. Yes right tell that to Handy. She got real mad when the police told her that Handy and had a right to be on the road and her dog was suppose to be restrained. Felt a little sorry for the dog not the owner so much.

Jen Gustafson - Im sorry but ur dogs behavior is because of you. I have two beautiful pitbulls and they are wonderful. Any dog can be aggressive not just pitbulls.

Christina Carignan - I think your retarded is strong.

Pitbulls-Just Say No - Katie Patten Seriously? I have dogs bigger than pits and they would be shot if they got loose. Difference is pits owners, as a group, are an epic failure in controlling their mutants.

Brittany Goss - I would kill the person who shoots my pitbull. No ands ifs or buts about it. My pitbull is my baby boy, my family.
