Oklahoma: Woman stabs her own Pit Bull with scissors after it turns on her in horrific 20-minute attack

OKLAHOMA -- Wayland Gray added 6 new photos to Facebook January 18, 2018 at 6:31pm · Tulsa, OK ·

Talkin to a friend who was attacked 20 minute battle she stabbed him with a pair of small scissors over and over by her Pit Bull that she owned and trusted.

I'm not posting this to bash Pits it doesn't matter any dog can turn on you [well, that's true, but not very many can do this to a human being -- bully breeds are the ones that do this the most often]. The most ridiculous the thing I've ever heard is "oh cujo is harmless he wont bite" ..

My reason for posting this is to show the damage that can be done with one bite drug her 300 ft. Inches away from the momma dog sleeping and luckily she was deaf so didn't wake up possibly could have joined the attack ... watch the kids....

I was almost attacked when I was about 11 by two pit bulls who were coming at me in my backyard that jump the fence we had an acre backyard I had a dog that was full-blooded Chow a red one named Nikki she come flying around the house and went head on with the first one that was leading the way she was so fierce in her attack that the other Pit bull turned around and ran back and jump the fence to get away and Nikki tore that Pit bull up it got up and ran off I jumped up on top of my grandma's tornado cellar so when your kids are out playing you got to also beware of stray dogs

Dana Cruze - Jesus Christ, that looks like a shark bite! She is lucky to be alive. Pit bulls have killed HUNDREDS of people, and they keep killing people every 9 days, and severely mauling people every day. They killed 2 people just this past week.

It's NOT the owners. If the problem was with owners then we'd be seeing fatalities by all breeds, and each year there would be a different #1 killer. But it is ALWAYS pit bulls every year.

Alabama: Marcel Spinks charged with aggravated animal cruelty after pizza delivery driver spots bloody dog

ALABAMA -- An Anniston man has been arrested for cutting the ears off his dog, and investigators say they believe he clipped them with garden shears or scissors and left them to bleed.

Calhoun County Deputy Jon Garlick said today that Marcel Raymond Spinks was arrested yesterday on charges of aggravated animal cruelty. He was later released on $10,000 bond. His court date is set for April 13 at 1:30 p.m.

Authorities said the case against Spinks began on Feb. 23, when a pizza delivery employee noticed a dog with excessive bleeding in the 400 block of Dearmanville Avenue South.

Capt. Marcus Wood said investigators believe Spinks cut the dog's ears to make the dog "look meaner" and to keep it from having something for other dogs to grab onto.

The dog, a four to five-month-old pit bull named Cry Baby, was operated on shortly after authorities seized him and is recovering.

"This is one of the worst cases of animal cruelty I've ever seen," said Jane Cunningham, board president of the Cheaha Regional Humane Society. "There was blood everywhere when the delivery person saw the animal. We were afraid the dog was going to bleed out."

In all, authorities seized seven dogs from Spinks. Eric Clanton, a veterinarian who treated the dog, said owners sometimes have pit bulls' ears trimmed - called fighting trim - but Spinks held the dog down and cut his ears. The left ear was completely cut off, Clanton said, while the right ear was cut from the center of the neck to the tip and were not sutured.

"These were open wounds," he said. There should be no effect on the dog's hearing.

Cunningham said she hopes people will report cases like this to prevent animal injuries.

Tara Davis Moudy shared WVTM 13's post on Facebook:

Before everyone goes believing this crock, this wasn't his dog he would never hurt an animal. I have know him for 9 years and he has lots of animals and would never do anything but I have 2 neighbors right behind me that do hurt and neglect their dogs and I have called and reported them and nothing gets done. This makes me upset that an innocent man is having to go through this when the guilty ones have nothing happen

Linda Hughes - somebody at his house injured this dog. the least he could have done is get this animal some care for his injuries and he did not do that. How can you say he is not responsible for this?

Linda Hughes - I know someone called and reported that someone was cutting off the dogs (more than one) ears with scissors and when they got there they found one dog with his ears cut off and several others were there as well.

Tara Davis Moudy - That is NOT true, the dog that was there was injured but not by this man and the dog that he had that had its ears cut was professional by a vet. And the dog that was at his house he was in the process of getting the dog to where it needed to be, this act was not done at his house.

Tara Davis Moudy - This isn't my battle to fight but it just irritates me to see someone who wouldn't hurt an animal get into serious trouble when I have called the law to people for serious serious neglect and nothing happens and people are quick to judge someone when they dnt know all the facts

Linda Hughes - I know quiet a few facts about this one and he has been arrested so his story of having a vet do that is not adding up. When people call in about abuse and neglect they do investigate it but unfortunately until the animal is in serious trouble they can't do anything about it which should tell you that they have some real proof here are he would not have been arrested. The dog with his ears cut was in serious need of a vets care and was not getting it at the very least. I have to disagree with you on this one and we will have to wait and see what happens in court. Just know this... it is really really hard to get someone arrested over a dog. I mean they really have to have some proof and they have it in this case.

Rhonda Nunn - Omg Tara Davis Moudy, I don't believe that either I have been around him with his dogs and they were like his children sometimes he had one accidentally die of a heat stroke bec knocked water over in mid summer and he was at work and made the grown man come to tears someone like that doesn't intentionally harm another one

Mississippi: Brandy Giddens, wife of a Jackson Police Officer Rahn Giddens, selling puppies with ears hacked off

MISSISSIPPI -- A picture posted to social media of a puppy, whose ears were bleeding after reportedly being chopped off, has caused outrage from the community on social media.

A woman named Brandy Giddens posted on Facebook (under the name Brandy Tequila Giddens) advertising the sale of a small puppy. It appears the puppy's ears were cropped butchered at home and not by a licensed vet.

Jackson Police Department Commander Tyree Jones has confirmed that Giddens is married to an officer and the matter is under review by the Jackson Police Department.

When asked about the puppy, Giddens claims that she never actually saw the dog that she posted and she didn't know cropping sawing off their ears in that manner was illegal. She said she has been questioned by Jackson police and told them this information.

When asked who cropped the dog's ears and who the owner was, she would not give a name.

Although the Jackson Police Department would not release the officer's name, according to Facebook, he has been identified as Officer Rahn Giddens.

BRANDY GIDDENS HAS DONE THIS BEFORE
Heather Daw with local rescue, Rescue Tails, said she they were given a puppy bought from the same woman about 2-3 weeks ago. She says that particular puppy was also in a similar condition as the one pictured this week.

Although ear cropping is a common practice among specific dog breeds, the manner in which this particular puppy went through the procedure is what's causing an uproar among social media users.

Is this animal cruelty under state law? Our investigation revealed that it is.

"Under state law, it appears to be illegal. It does in my opinion it is," said Debra Boswell of the Mississippi Animal Rescue League. "It's cruel. They hold them down crop them with scissors hold the little puppy down and do it. There is always the issue of infection and bleeding. The first issue is pain."

Brandy Giddens claims she sold the puppies for someone else and has been questioned by police.

"I won't say who it is," said Giddens. "He asked me to and I did it. I didn't know it was illegal. If I had known it was illegal I wouldn't have done it."

Well, she better tell the police "who it it" or she'll be charged for hindering their investigation - on top of being charged with animal cruelty. And her POS husband needs to be charged as well. One look at this puppy and a reasonable person - especially a police officer - would know that this puppy was in pain and needed veterinary care. There's a saying, 'One bad apple spoils the whole bunch.' OFFICER RAHN GIDDENS is a rotten, putrid apple and he needs to be fired.

We later found out that the puppy was being sold on Facebook for $300. Giddens told us that she no longer has the puppy.

WHAT IS THE JACKSON POLICE DEPARTMENT GOING TO DO?

Jackson Mississippi Police Department spokespoerson Commander Tyree Jones said the matter was under review.

"The Jackson Police Department has received information regarding this issue," Jones said. "It is currently being reviewed at this time."

Don't expect them to do anything to Jackson Police Officer Rahn Giddens, but if animal lovers continue to press them about the issue, they just might charge Jackson Police Officer Rahn Giddens' wife Brandy Giddens with animal cruelty.

Mississippi: Jackson Police Officer Rahn Giddens' wife Brandy Giddens selling injured puppies with butchered ears

MISSISSIPPI -- The recent attempt by the wife of a Jackson police officer to sell a bloodied puppy online has sparked criticism and outrage on social media.

According to the head of one local animal shelter, the puppy appears to have undergone a cropping of its ears at home, a procedure at least one veterinarian said should be done at an animal hospital or veterinarian's clinic.

Brandy Giddens, wife of Jackson Police Department officer Rahn Gidden, posted photos (under the Facebook username Brandy Tequila Giddens) of a small, gray puppy with bloody ears in the Pearl, Brandon, Richland, Flowood II Yardsale pages on Facebook (those posts have since been taken down).

She also posted photos of a small, brown, "Tri Pit" puppy for sale on the page for $200. That puppy's ears also appear to have been cut.

Cropping dogs' ears is illegal in Jackson, according to Sec 18-4 of the city's Code of Ordinances, which states "no person shall crop a dog's ears or perform any other major or minor surgical procedures except a licensed veterinarian."

Brandy Giddens said Wednesday that the dogs did not belong to her and she posted them on social media as a favor for a friend of a friend.

Referencing the gray puppy, Giddens said, "I've never seen this dog a day in my life."

THIS ISN'T THE FIRST PUPPY SHE SOLD
Another puppy, named Layla, was purchased from Brandy Giddens and then given to Rescue Tails, an animal rescue shelter in Brookhaven, according to the shelter's president, Heather Daw.

"Her ears were cropped, but we are not sure of the manner in which it was done," Daw said. "However, the seller was clear that it was a 'home crop' and not performed by a veterinarian."

However, Giddens said Layla was not her puppy and she only served as a go between for the dog's owner and the person who bought her.

"I didn't get any money, I was just doing a favor for a friend," she said. "I'm never going to do that again."

Giddens said she was not aware that cropping dogs' ears was illegal in Jackson, saying, "If I had known that I would have never put the dog on there."

Daw described the home crop as "abuse" and said it isn't uncommon.

"In my opinion, ear cropping should only be done by a veterinarian under anesthesia; doing this at home is abuse and it causes the animal tremendous amounts of pain," she said. "Unfortunately, this type of abuse is not uncommon and animal rescues deal with this kind of cruelty, and worse kinds of cruelty, on a regular basis. We in rescue rely on the community for the funding and support that allows us to save animals from situations like this."

Dr. Christine Bryan, a veterinarian with the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine, saw pictures of the gray puppy. Bryan said she could not "definitively" say the puppy's ears were cropped at home but noted the lack of stitches and the appearance of the cropping.

"Typically there’s going to be sutures in place, closing the edges of the cropping," she said. "If it’s done by a veterinarian, it’s usually going to look different than that."

Bryan said cropping a puppy's ears should always be performed by a licensed veterinarian.

"It's a cosmetic procedure but it is a medical procedure, therefore it should be performed by a licensed veterinarian," Bryan said.  "It's not normal to be done at home and not something we would ever recommend."

Bryan said after cropping, the dog would be in a great deal of pain and need pain medication as well as a post-op check-up.

"It's something that needs to be checked by the vet who has done the procedure, and it requires continual care after the procedure," she said.

JPD spokesperson Commander Tyree Jones said Wednesday morning the matter was under review.

"The Jackson Police Department has received information regarding this issue," Jones said. "It is currently being reviewed at this time."

United Kingdom: Christopher Griffiths, 35, given just a 6 month jail sentence for chopping off his dog's ears

UNITED KINGDOM -- A man who force fed his dog with cocaine then cut off its ears using pliers and scissors has been caged.

Christopher Griffiths, 35, has been jailed for 24 weeks for the attack on his Staffordshire pit bull terrier named Victor.

Six months??? That's it???

Police found the distressed pet after Griffiths claimed he had been attacked in his home in Wrexham last September.

Judge Gwyn Jones said at the town’s magistrates court: “You ignored the obvious pain Victor was in. It was planned because you drugged the dog in advance.”

“Removing the ears would have taken a considerable amount of force.”

RSPCA inspector Kia Thomas said "When I first saw Victor I was just so shocked as his ears were gaping open wounds. I had never seen anything quite like it before.

"It was just so heart-breaking. It is awful to imagine what poor Victor went through. It was totally unnecessary.”

Following the attack Griffiths was told to hand in his two off staffs, Ned and Brandy, to the RSPCA.

Evidence of cocaine in the pup's system was picked up in a urine test.

Officers reported the dog to be remarkably placid given the extent of his injuries.

Griffiths was also banned from owning dogs for ten years.

United Kingdom: Family's pet cat is 'tortured and completely mangled' after being held in a noose and killed with acid poison

UNITED KINGDOM -- A family's pet cat was strung up in a noose before having acid poured over her face in a sickening attack which meant she had to be put down.

Lucy Robson, from Paignton, Devon, said her 18-month-old cat Princess had been 'tortured and completely mangled' by thugs who also cut all her fur with scissors.

Ms Robson, 42, said her family had been traumatized by the sight of Princess's injuries, and have issued an appeal to try to catch those responsible.

Princess had vanished from the family home on July 14 but after desperate searches to find her proved unsuccessful they received a call to say that she had been taken to a vet in nearby Totnes.

But they were shocked when they saw the state their pet was in, and had no option but to have her put to sleep.

'We were not prepared for what we would find when we went to the vets,' she said. 'Our poor little baby girl had been tortured and barely resembled the beautiful cat we knew.

'Her face was completely mangled from some kind of acid poison which had eaten away at her face and mouth, preventing her from breathing properly.

'The fur around her poor neck had been worn down with abrasive marks where some form of noose had held her. Her ears were burnt and she had wounds in other places.

'Her bottom was red raw and the hair had been cut with scissors or some other implement down to the raw skin. Her liver and kidneys were failing and she couldn't bear her own weight.

'The vets tried to help her but her injuries were too sustained and letting her go was the only kind thing left for her.'

Ms Robson said the horror will stay with the family for a long time to come, and that they had suffered from nightmares following their ordeal.

She added: 'We can never 'unsee' these images of torture and such horrific cruelty that remain our last memories of her.

'Princess was the heart of our family and such a gentle loving and friendly cat. Her best friend was my six-year-old daughter who Princess slept many nights on the end of her bed to keep her from having nightmares.

'Now we all have nightmares.'

Florida: Markell Sawyer, 19, didn't just burglarize a home, police say. He also is accused of using scissors to stab the family's Yorkie while there.

FLORIDA -- A suspect believed to be at the center of a home intrusion and animal cruelty case has been arrested, according to police.

The Palm Bay Police Department arrested Markell Brent Sawyer in connection with the July 24 attack on a 2-year-old Yorkshire Terrier named Jasper.

During the burglary, police say the dog was stabbed with scissors and left for dead.

Barbara Riha went to check on her neighbor's 2-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, Jasper, Sunday morning. The dog-sitter was shocked at what she saw.

"I found his collar out in the road, and I knew something was wrong," Riha said.

Police said the dog had been stabbed with scissors, was bleeding internally and suffered spleen and gall-bladder damage.

Smashed glass was found all over the home, the front door and back porch. Police said the floors were coated with soap, drawers were open and that a TV and phone were stolen.

Riha called 911, along with the home and dog's owner, John Kilderry. After police responded, she took Jasper to an animal hospital.

Kilderry flew home from Boston, where he was with family.

"I didn't know if he was going to live, die or what," Kilderry said of his dog. "It was emotionally draining."

The surgery was successful, and Jasper is expected to be fine. But the experience has angered everyone, including law enforcement.

"We take all crime serious," said Lt. Mike Bandish during a statement, "but this was very shocking."

Property from the home was reportedly found in Sawyer's possession after Palm Bay's Juvenile Task Force did a juvenile check.

Sawyer, 19, was charged with armed burglary of a dwelling and felony cruelty to animals.

He is being held at the Brevard County Jail without bond.

New York: Lee Hughes, who pleaded guilty to animal cruelty but failed to show up for sentencing,is now in custody

NEW YORK -- The man who pleaded guilty to animal cruelty but failed to show up for sentencing will remain in custody until his next sentencing date, according to the Nassau SPCA.

As News 12 Long Island has reported, Lee Hughes and two other people pleaded guilty in March in connection with the mutilation of a dog named Miss Harper.

Hughes and his estranged wife admitted to cutting off the dog's ear and part of her leg. The Nassau SPCA says the pit bull was just a few months old when the abuse happened in 2013, and her wounds became infected. News 12 was there when the dog was adopted by a Bellmore family following her recovery.

Miss Harper

A warrant was issued for Hughes' arrest after he missed sentencing on July 11.

Hughes faced up to six months behind bars at his original sentencing.

Massachusetts: Dog breeder, Dominick Donovan, 51, denies cruelty charges

MASSACHUSETTS -- A North Shore man charged with animal cruelty for his role in the deaths of four dogs has agreed to become a witness against his co-defendant, a New York breeder charged with killing two of the puppies and causing the death of a third.

Jason Gentry, 35, is due in Salem Superior Court today for arraignment on a dozen counts of animal cruelty and a charge of running a kennel without a license.

But during the arraignment of his co-defendant, New York dog breeder Dominick Donovan, yesterday, prosecutors included Gentry on a list of witnesses Donovan is barred from contacting in any way.

Court on animal cruelty charges. His lawyer, Jake Atwood, is
with him. KEN YUSZKUS/Staff photo

The two were indicted last month by an Essex County grand jury.

Donovan, 51, of Long Beach, New York, is believed to be behind a social media post that included a photo of a rat, targeting Gentry, said a prosecutor.

Donovan, who breeds and sells so-called “designer” dogs he calls Donovan Pinschers, pleaded not guilty to six counts of animal cruelty during his arraignment yesterday in Salem Superior Court.

He remains free after posting an additional $2,500 bail, bringing his total bail to $5,000. Despite the request of prosecutors, Salem Superior Court Judge Timothy Feeley did not bar Donovan from owning or working with animals.

Feeley said that without the consent of Donovan to such a condition, he does not have the authority to strip him of contact with dogs or other animals.

Puppies killed
Prosecutors say it was Donovan who, in November 2014, hanged two puppies — Gotti and Livid — by their collars until they died.

Gotti had some sort of hip issue, prosecutor Lynsey Legier told a judge, and Livid, a female puppy, appeared to have a nervous temperament. Legier said Donovan had originally agreed to take two puppies back home to Long Island after deciding the dogs did not meet his “quality standard.”

Instead, the prosecutor said, Donovan hanged the puppies, then asked Gentry to get a trash bag and hold it open. The puppies were found inside that trash bag at a gas station in Revere. That touched off an investigation that led officials to Gentry’s squalid kennel, which he called Alpha Canine Performance Center, in Lynn, where the dogs were killed.

Donovan had a reputation for “culling” puppies that were of no financial benefit to him, the prosecutor said.

In another incident, she said, Donovan used a pair of household scissors to “crop” the ears of four puppies, one of which later died.

Legier told the judge that Donovan bound the puppies’ muzzles and paws with duct tape and had Gentry hold them still as he cut off parts of their ears. No anesthesia was used, and Legier said witnesses have described the puppies as being in obvious pain, their eyes bulging.

A witness told investigators, said Legier, that Donovan claims he routinely crops dogs’ ears in that manner and that he is legally allowed to do so. He is not.

The fourth dog, named Wootan, was given Valium before being loaded into a carrier to be sent back to New York, and died, according to indictments in Gentry’s case.

The prosecutor also raised concerns about the potential for witness intimidation, citing a social media post showing a picture of a rat and the name “Jason,” as well as other messages attributed to Donovan or someone on his behalf.

Legier also noted Donovan was once fined by Pennsylvania authorities after ignoring a 2007 Parvovirus outbreak at a facility he co-owned there. The virus is highly contagious and can cause serious illness. Some dogs died as a result of the lack of treatment, the prosecutor said.

‘Respected breeder’
Donovan’s attorney, Jack Atwood, questioned the credibility of Gentry and the strength of the case.
“My client and Mr. Gentry were in business together,” said Atwood.

He suggested that Gentry — whose unlicensed kennel in Lynn was shut down after it was discovered during the investigation into the deaths of Gotti and Livid — had motive to point the finger at Donovan. Atwood also told the judge authorities in New York saw no issues with Donovan’s kennel there. The kennel was inspected after Donovan was originally charged in the case last summer.

And Atwood said his client has sold dogs to prisons and police departments, to be used as guard dogs or drug dogs.

“He’s a respected breeder,” said Atwood.

Atwood also challenged the prosecutor’s request for additional bail, telling Feeley that Donovan has traveled back and forth from New York for court appearances and meetings with the lawyer at least four times.

“He looks forward to defending himself on these charges,” Atwood told the judge.

If convicted, Donovan faces up to five years in prison on each of the six counts. The potential penalty for animal cruelty was increased by legislation that, by coincidence, was enacted two weeks after the deaths of Gotti and Livid, the prosecutor told the judge.

Donovan’s case is scheduled to be back in court March 10. Typically, in Essex County, defendants or their attorneys in criminal cases are expected to be in court monthly, but Feeley granted Atwood additional time to prepare for the pretrial conference.

That decision came after Atwood told the judge he needs time to review evidence turned over by prosecutors, including 2,300 pages of cellphone records — records that put Donovan in Massachusetts at the time of the dogs’ deaths.
