Australia: Baby girl, 1, being pushed in a stroller by her mother dies after being attacked by Rottweiler

AUSTRALIA -- The little girl killed in a dog attack at Inverell, in northern NSW, yesterday is being remembered as a "loved and adored by so many."

One-year-old Kamillah Jones was being pushed down the street by her mother in her stroller, when it's understood a Rottweiler leaped over a fence and attacked her.

She was taken to hospital but died of her injuries on the way.

Her aunt Ida Boney took to Facebook yesterday to describe the tragedy.

"She was actually being walked by her mother in a pram on the way to her granny's house just one block away," she wrote.

"There are no words to describe a scene where a mother is fighting with every ounce of her being to save her baby girl.

"Our family have lost our baby girl who never got a chance to live her life," she said.

A GoFundMe page started on Saturday has so far raised $710 of its $6,000 goal to help the family in its time of need.

Emergency services were called to a home on Greaves St, Inverell, about 2.20pm yesterday following reports a Rottweiler attacked the baby.

Officers who arrived the scene found the child suffering critical injuries.

She was treated at the scene but died on the way to hospital, NSW Police said.

Reports yesterday suggested the Rottweiler dog belonged to the child's family — either immediate or extended — and was seized by Inverell Shire Council rangers from their backyard, but police today were still unable to confirm who the dog belonged to.

The family were reportedly new to the area, having only recently moved in.

One Greaves St resident, who witnessed the aftermath of the attack, said she was in front of her house when a paramedic walked out of the neighboring property with the young girl in his arms.

 

 

She said the ambulance then sped away from the street with lights and sirens as two distressed women watched on.

"I just saw a young girl in an ambulance officer's arms, which was dreadful to see," she said.

"I figured (she had died) when she came out the way she did. I didn't see any marks on her so I thought it must have been a pool incident … I didn't notice any movement.

"I didn't see much after that because I ran inside because it was a little too vivid to watch."

The woman said a man arrived at the house a short time after the incident and was also very distressed.

Initial sources said the attack happened during a family barbecue and that the dog was the family pet.

Neighbor Helen Bedford defended the family on social media and urged people not to jump to conclusions about the incident.

"These poor parents are beyond devastated and grieving," she wrote.

"I watched the ambos trying to help her ... I feel sick now. Please stop with the nasty comments, they don't need to see this at all."

Notice the neighbor didn't dispute that the dog belonged to the family.

An investigation is now underway by police from New England Police District and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

There were 1196 dog attacks reported to NSW local councils from July-September 2017, with 125 children attacked and 36 people hospitalised.

There were 1228 dog attacks during the same period last year, according to the Office of Local Government.

Canada: Next door neighbor's Pit Bull runs over, attacks and mauls woman's screaming Poodle to death before biting off a part of her finger.

CANADA -- An Abbotsford woman lost part of her finger trying to save her miniature poodle from being mauled to death by a neighbor’s pit bull.

The woman, who asked not to be identified, said her young poodle Oscar and her Rottweiler Tony were out in their yard (on their own property) when the Pit Bull from next door attacked.

 

She not only lost her dog, but also a large piece of her finger.

“I look at my hand to see there’s a piece of my finger missing. I grab my fingers, scream my face off, screaming trying to run back home,” she said.

 

 

The injuries could have been worse, she believes, if not for the Rottweiler which came to her aid.

“He went for the little guy and I think that’s why Tony, my big dog, saw that and he tried to defend,” she said.

The owner said a proper memorial is being planned for the poodle. The Rottweiler is recovering from a serious injury.

SURPRISED PIT BULL OWNER

The pit bull’s owner, Jillian Azanza, said the dog has been in the family for 14 years and [claimed it] had never displayed any aggression before.

Azanza told Global News that she wanted the victim to know how “upsetting this whole thing is and I feel very horrible for them.”

The pit bull is in the pound. The dog’s fate has not been officially determined, but Azanza said “it’s highly likely he’ll be put down.”

Likely? You're the owner. The animal is your property and you have the final say so whether it is put down or not. Why isn't it a guarantee that you're going to do the right thing and have it put down?

New York: Steven Errante raped and then beat a dog to death with a baseball bat in 2013. He's been arrested again; now accused of raping horses

NEW YORK -- A Suffolk County creep with a history of animal abuse was busted on Wednesday afternoon for having sex with horses earlier this year, cops said Thursday.

Steven Errante, 30, of Dix Hills, had been ordered to check in with the Animal Abuse Offenders Registry after he was convicted of RAPING and beating a dog with a baseball bat in 2013, but failed to do so.

"After being stolen from her owners and raped by Errante, the Rottweiler-Labrador mix, which was suffering from a fractured skull including fractures to her head, face, trauma to the body and a broken forearm, was euthanized to end her suffering."

So detectives from the county cops’ Special Victims Section paid him a visit to check into his failure to register and discovered that he had “sexual contact with RAPED horses on two separate occasions,” according to a statement.

The disturbing encounters occurred at a stable on Pine Acres Boulevard in Dix Hills on Aug. 25 and Sept. 4, cops said.

Errante was charged with two counts of sexual misconduct with an animal and failure to register with the offender’s registry.

New York: House where little boy was mauled by his aunt's Rottweilers has been condemned due to ammonia level, animal feces throughout

NEW YORK --  Following up on neighbors' complaints of foul smells and barking dogs, police recently raided the 70th Street home where two Rottweilers mauled a 7-year-old boy on June 7.

The house was later condemned by city inspectors who said the building and yard were overrun with animal waste, creating unsanitary living conditions.

 

 

The owner of the property, Keri Ann Sweatman, 44, was cited for having three unlicensed dogs on the premises, and for exceeding the number of animals allowed on a city property.

Police said that Sweatman signed over custody of the three dogs to the Niagara County SPCA. Six cats also were removed from the home at 228 70th St.

Child Protective Services also was called after a 4-year-old girl was found sleeping in a first-floor bedroom, surrounded by piles of cat feces on the floor. 

Police filed a child abuse report because of the unsanitary conditions. Records did not indicate the child's relationship to Sweatman.

The house first drew police attention on June 7 when 7-year-old Kaeden Mitchell was attacked by his aunt's two Rottweilers in its backyard.

The boy was savagely bitten about the head, face and neck, sustaining injuries that required 250 stitches and an additional 250 staples to close. 

Kaeden also suffered spinal cord injuries in the attack and was put into a medically induced coma for seven days to allow swelling in his brain to subside. He has since undergone multiple surgeries and may have suffered a stroke while hospitalized in the aftermath of the attack.

The boy has since been released from the hospital and is making a gradual recovery. Sweatman, who was identified as Kaeden's aunt, was not charged in connection with the incident, but she did surrender the two dogs to the SPCA to be euthanized the day after the attack.

Officer David Bower said that he was called back to the home on June 20, when neighbors complained of barking dogs there. He said that he spoke to some neighbors who said that they were unable to use their own backyards due to the overwhelming stench coming from the property.

He saw a pair of adult male German shepherds and an adult female Rottweiler in the backyard of the home, and confirmed with the City Clerk's Office that no dog license had been issued for the address.

A search warrant was issued to remove the unlicensed animals. Bower said that when he went in the house on July 25, he noticed a strong smell of feces and urine, and saw several piles of dog waste on the first and second floors of the home before finding the child sleeping in a bedroom.

"The odor (of urine and feces) was extremely strong in the basement,'' Bower wrote in his report, but access to the basement was impossible due to the amount of animal waste concentrated there.

 

 

The backyard had large amounts of dog waste, a broken trampoline and a pool filled with a foot of "very dirty" water. Joe Chick from the city inspector's office was called to the scene and condemned the property, according to police reports.

Sweatman, who according to police records is employed as an aide at Ransomville Manor, was issued appearance tickets to answer the charges against her in City Court.

Tennessee: Jamie Bosch pleads not guilty to charges after her Pit Bull Rottweilers mauled 11-year-old boy

TENNESSEE -- The woman whose dogs allegedly attacked a Wilson County child was in court on Friday.

Jamie Bosch is accused of allowing her dogs to roam free and seriously injure a child.

Jamie Christine Bosch, 41, was charged with allowing dogs to roam at large after two dogs viciously attacked Isaac Bellfield on April 3 as he was walking from the school bus home.

“There was blood and mud puddles and five, six different spots where you could see blood where the dog was getting him and getting him and getting him... He was shredded head to toe. He had two shirts. They were tore off. His shirt was shredded like some razor blades hit it."

"He went 25 foot off the road, to the edge of my field. Those dogs… two big ole puddles where those dogs tore ground up and blood and everything else up there,” said neighbor Keith Fugate.

His recovery has included four skin grafts and hundreds of stitches and staples, his mother, Auguste Denton, said just after the school year.

Neighbors told News Channel5 the dogs in the attack have a history of violence, attacking and even killing another dog.

The two dogs, described as Pit Bull / Rottweiler mixes, were euthanized.

On Friday, Bosch pleaded not guilty. She is scheduled to return to court in September and is currently out on $2,500 bond.

Connecticut: Jenna Allen, whose Rottweilers seriously mauled healthcare worker back in 2014, is sentenced to 60 days in jail

CONNECTICUT -- A woman from Plainfield was sentenced Friday to 60 days in prison after her dogs mauled a home health aid and left her severely injured three years ago.

It was an emotional day inside the courtroom as the daughter of the victim spoke out.

Jenna Allen sat quietly before a judge as the daughter of the mauling victim read a statement from her sister.

Lynn Denning is still recovering from horrific injuries that she suffered in 2014 when two of Allen's Rottweilers attacked her, biting off her nose and parts of her face, as well as leaving a gaping hole in her arm.

 

 

During the attack, Denning, now 58, had her upper right cheek, parts of both lips, left eyelid and her entire nose torn away, she said. She also had numerous cuts and bites on her breasts, shoulder, arms and legs, requiring extensive and numerous reconstructive surgeries.

“The pain was unbelievable and (I) had trouble talking and breathing because of the blood going down (my) throat,” Denning told police, according to a warrant.

 

 

“Until something really tragic happens, you don’t really realize on a day-to-day basis what that person really means to you,” said Tony Denning.

“If this would have bothered him and he couldn’t handle it, I wouldn’t have a life. I wouldn’t want to live,” Lynne said.

"My mom will never be the same woman she was," her daughter said.

Through her sister, Denning said this case was not about revenge, but rather to make dog owner's responsible.

"For me this is about setting a precedent," she said.

Allen responded with a short statement.

 

Her attorney said they will appeal the conviction.

She is currently free on bond while that process plays out.

Allen had five Rottweilers. The two involved in the attack have been put down.

Florida: 12-year-old dog rescued by firefighters after falling into bay

FLORIDA -- Call it Junior’s lucky day.

On Thursday, the nearly 12-year-old Chinese Shar-Pei and Rottweiler mix got lost from his Miami Beach home, fell into Biscayne Bay, was rescued by a firefighter and later was reunited with his owner thanks to some social media magic.

The rescue and reunion were posted on the Miami Beach Fire Rescue’s Twitter page.

 

 

The story began around 10 a.m. Thursday, when Jose Ruiz was out for a run and got a call from his dad alerting him that Junior, who normally sleeps under a backyard tree until noon, was gone.

The Miami Herald reports Ruiz raced home, walked through the neighborhood looking for the dog and then drove around to search. Later he posted a photo of Junior on Instagram and printed some fliers.

By then, firefighter Emilio Sanchez had spotted the dog struggling to swim in the water behind a home about a block from its home.

 

 

Sanchez jumped in and helped the 50-pound dark-haired dog to shore with an assist from other firefighters.

The rescue was captured on cellphone video, which quickly hit social media and local television stations.

“He was very exhausted, just by the way he was breathing, and he was already barely able to keep his head up out of the water,” Sanchez told WPLG. “So I pretty much got there in good timing. He was very eager to see me and he was happy I was there.”

Firefighters dubbed Junior “Champ” before handing him over to police.

 

 

A woman who runs a pet-reuniting service in Los Angeles helped to reunite the dog and his owner after spotting news reports about Junior and seeing Ruiz’s Instagram post. Helen Trimble contacted Ruiz and sent him the stories. He headed to City Hall, where he was reunited with Junior.

Ruiz tells the Herald he has no idea how Junior got into the bay.

“He doesn’t like water. He doesn’t even like to take a shower,” Ruiz said, who gave the dog a shower Thursday night to rinse off the salt water. “I think he’s had enough water for a while.”

Junior spent the rest of Thursday evening on a pillow, too tired to move.

“He is just completely exhausted,” Ruiz said. “I am just so happy to have him home.”
