Ohio: In July, this Pit Bull attacked a child. Animal Control did nothing. Now it's burst into a fenced yard, chased, attacked and mauled to death an elderly woman's beloved Poodle.

A pit bull that mauled a family’s small white poodle to death now faces euthanasia. The pit bull is currently in quarantine at the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center and will likely be be euthanized according to employees at the resource center.

 

 

Dayton Police say this is not the first altercation between the pit bull and the family of the deceased poodle. 

In July the pit bull reportedly attacked a child playing in the yard and bit her in the chest.

And what did Animal Control do about it then? Apparently nothing. 

The pit bull’s owners are currently facing a misdemeanor charge for failing to control their dog.

Within 12 hours, a 73-year-old Dayton woman lost her daughter to illness, and then her best friend, 9-year-old poodle Rosie, to an attack by an aggressive dog.

Joyce Ford let out her three dogs, Rosie, Louis and Missy, around 6:45 a.m. Saturday into the fenced-in backyard of her home in the 200 block of Smith Road in Dayton.

Shortly after, she and her son, Shawn Montague, said they heard a lot of barking outside.

“We looked out the window and we saw a great pit pull that was trying to break up under neath the fence. The dog actually got up underneath the fence, grabbed the dog and ripped the dog to pieces,” Montague said. “It was a terrible thing to see.”

Montague and his mother tried to save Rosie, but to no avail. He grabbed the dog’s tail and flung it, but it wouldn’t dislodge.

“My mom got a screwdriver and tried to stab the dog in the back and the screwdriver broke,” he said. “The other dogs were trying to attack the pit bull so I tried to grab them up so they wouldn’t get attacked, too.”

When he saw the dogs insides spilled out, he turned to his mother and told her to go inside, that her dog is gone.

Witnesses helped to get the dog secured and chained to a pole.

This is a difficult time for his mother, Montague said.

“Right now, she’s making arrangements to bury my sister and on top of that she loses her best friend ... and then, the way it happened. I didn’t want to her to witness it but when she saw it, it was devastating,” he said.

 

When Dayton police officers arrived, they found the pit bull chained to a fence post with “blood on the pit bull’s mouth, jawline area and on the chest area, where there was a white patch of fur,” according to an incident report.

It also stated the dog barked at a small child who came outside a nearby residence and “began to aggressively bark towards the child and tried to break loose from the chain.”

According to a Dayton police report, a 27-year-old woman at the house where the pit bull lives said the dog belongs to her ex-boyfriend but that she lets the dog stay at her home.

That dog and the deceased poodle were taken by police to the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center.

Director Mark Kumpf said the pit bull is being held at ARC pending the Dayton police investigation and location of its owner.

No one has been cited in the incident.

Apparently outraged citizens haven't been successful in getting him replaced after his agency let a woman get mauled to death by dogs she'd repeatedly called and complained about. She repeatedly begged them to do something to protect her. They all blew her off and now she's dead. Her name was Klonda Richey.

Texas: Trial underway for Brent Justice, accused of creating horrific videos showing animals tortured to death

TEXAS -- The trial for a man accused of torturing and killing a puppy began Monday in Harris County.

Brent Justice and Ashley Richards were charged in 2012 with animal cruelty after they allegedly used a meat cleaver to cut off a pit bull puppy’s tail, slice its leg and slash its neck. The puppy died as a result.

The gruesome death was reportedly videotaped and posted online to make money. Investigators said the videos are called crush videos. Crush videos show an animal being tortured, often crushed, to satisfy the viewer’s sexual appetite.

Justice and Richards created as many as 27 'crush' videos between February 2010 and August 2012 and was eventually stopped after PETA discovered the footage and alerted the authorities.

After her arrest in 2012, prosecutors said Richards tortured a puppy, kittens, a rabbit, mice, a pigeon, fish, lobsters and crabs using high heeled shoes, a meat cleaver, knives, screwdrivers and pliers.

She allegedly killed a cat by slitting its throat and stomping its eye with her shoe heel.

Richards pleaded guilty to creating the video at the federal level and has a sentencing trial set for Feb. 25.

She also pleaded guilty to the animal cruelty charge and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Justice is acting as his own attorney in the Harris County trial.

ALABAMA -- A 14-year old Okaloosa County teenager faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following an investigation that started with allegations that he battered his mother during an argument over him “hurting animals."

Okaloosa County deputies went to a home on Fisherman's Lane May 1 in response to a battery call.

The teen's mother says the middle school student punched her with his fist and kicked her in the chin as she fell to the ground. The responding deputy found bruises on the mother and a small dog in a bedroom that was dead from a blow to the head.

In the back yard, the officer found a chicken dead from an apparent pellet wound and in front of the house, a small stabbed poodle and a large dog with an apparent pellet wound.

The teen said he hit the dog in the head with a board, stabbed the small dog with a screwdriver, and shot the large dog and chicken with a pellet gun.

During the investigation, deputies also learned the teen was also responsible for two burglaries in the area. In connection with an April 19 burglary, the teen is charged with entering the home by breaking a window in a door.

He admitted taking two blue parakeets from their cage and then killing them. The juvenile says he threw their bodies into a small lake behind his house.

During the second burglary May 3, the teen admitted to breaking into the home and stealing a Crossman BB gun. He says he also poured sugar and rocks in the gas tank of the homeowner's SUV, “because I was mad.”

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office has charged the juvenile with four counts of felony animal abuse causing cruel death or suffering, two counts of misdemeanor cruelty to animals, one count of battery, two counts of burglary, criminal mischief, and two counts of theft.

He was turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Monster sentenced to 10 years in prison for torturing animals to death in sexually perverted videos

TEXAS -- A 23-year-old woman has been sentenced to 10 years behind bars for torturing dogs and cats to death to make videos for people who found the sick treatment sexually arousing.

Ashley Nichole Richards pleaded guilty to three counts of animal cruelty in Houston, Texas, Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson announced on Thursday morning.

She created as many as 27 'crush' videos between February 2010 and August 2012 and was eventually stopped after PETA discovered the footage and alerted the authorities.

After her arrest in 2012, prosecutors said she tortured a puppy, kittens, a rabbit, mice, a pigeon, fish, lobsters and crabs using high heeled shoes, a meat cleaver, knives, screwdrivers and pliers.

A graphic statement from PETA at the time revealed that she had often killed up to two animals a day, including a kitten who was bound with masking tape before being stomped on with a high heel that went into its eye.

Another video shows her using a meat cleaver to cut off a puppy's leg, PETA said.

She allegedly filmed the videos with the help of Brent Justice, 52, who is also charged with animal cruelty.

They would then give the videos to people who were sexually aroused by the treatment, prosecutors said, the Houston Chronicle reported.

'When a person tortures and kills an animal, that raises a red flag about that person’s capacity for violent behavior in general,' District Attorney Devon Anderson said, News92 reported.

'It will always be a priority for our office to aggressively prosecute offenders who abuse animals.'

The case is the first time anyone has been prosecuted for 'crush' videos in Harris County.

'While we are satisfied that the defendant received the maximum penalty in these cases,' Anderson said. 'We will fight at the next legislative session to increase the punishment range for this offense to better protect these animals and all citizens of Harris County.'

Stephanie Bell from PETA added: 'Given the undeniable link between cruelty to animals and interpersonal violence, the community at large is safer when convicted abusers such as Richards are behind bars.'

Some charges in the case were dismissed last year because a federal judge dismissed the statue as overbroad and a violation of their First Amendment rights. Four months later, prosecutors filed an appeal.

'As with child pornography, it is necessary to dry up the market in animal crush videos, which have little if any social value, in order to effectively prevent the criminal acts that necessarily occur when the videos are produced,' prosecutors had claimed, the Houston Press reported last year.

Justice is being held in the Harris County jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
