Michigan: Pit bull attack sends Bangor woman to hospital

MICHIGAN -- A Bangor woman was transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital Wednesday morning after a pit bull attacked her and her 3-year-old Chihuahua.

The woman, Lorraine Crandall, 55, sustained numerous punctures on various parts of her body from the pit bull's teeth, causing severe injuries, according to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office.

Her dog sustained more severe lacerations and had visibly broken ribs and possible internal injuries.

The condition of the dog is unknown at this time, but it is being treated by the family vet.

Van Buren County sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call at 27378 52nd St. in Arlington Township around 11:30 Wednesday morning after the pit bull attacked Crandall.

While en route, deputies learned that the dog had begun attacking the victim's husband, Thomas, who was not unharmed.

Crandall told police that she heard her dog yelping as if in pain when she went to investigate when she found the pit bull attacking her dog.

When she tried to pull her dog away from the pit bull, it turned it attacked her, knocking her to the ground and biting her several times before her husband was able to fend off the dog with a stick.

Police were able to restrain the pit bull until Animal Control officials arrived. The dog is being held at Van Buren County Animal Shelter.

Its owner is unknown.

Anyone with any information on this case should call Van Buren County Sheriff's Office at 269-657-3101.
