Toddler faces life-threatening injuries after dog attack

The American Bulldog, shown here,
attacked the child and her mother

OREGON -- A toddler is facing life threatening injuries to her head and neck after she was attacked by a dog Monday morning in Otter Rock, said Lincoln County Sgt. Mark Meister.

Eden Bailey, who turns  2 on  Tuesday, was at a home in the community north of Newport when the 3-year-old American Bulldog attacked her. Her mother, Kari  Wallace also received less serious injuries while saving Eden from the dog, Meister said.

Both were taken to the Samaritan Pacific Communities hospital in Newport. The child is scheduled to be taken by emergency transport out of the area for additional care.

The dog belonged to the owners of the home where Eden and her mother were staying, Meister said. They were not home at the time of the attack.

No one witnessed the initial attack and it’s not known why the dog attacked. After Wallace was able to free her daughter, the dog attempted to continue the attack. Wallace was able to escape the house with Eden and lock the dog inside.

The dog was euthanized at the owners’ request.
