Boy Suffers Eye Damage In Attack By Dogs

WASHINGTON -- A 5-year-old Thurston County boy suffered damage to an eyelid and his tear ducts in an attack by two dogs last week.

Cameron Felty said he tried to flee after he was attacked by an English Bulldog and another dog on Friday.

"I got up and I ran to the grass, and then he got me again -- the brown one did," Cameron told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Richard Thompson.

Cameron's mother said she ran outside after she heard his screams and saw the dog attacking her son. A neighbor was trying to help him.

"(I) just ran over and grabbed him, and tried to hold him up as high as I could. But it kind of didn't help because as I high as I went, the dogs just went higher and knocked us down," Jennifer Felty said.

When the attack was over, Cameron's left lower eyelid had been ripped off and his tear ducts destroyed.

He's undergone one surgery to try and repair the damage already and will be going in for a second on Friday morning at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The Bulldog that attacked Cameron is being held at Thurston County Animal Services.

The boy's father said there's no question what should happen next.

"I think the obvious thing is a no-brainer: to put it down," Paul Felty said.

The dog's future is dog uncertain, said Thompson.

Thompson said the dogs' owner has been charged with what "injury to a person."
