Janet A. Sharpley, of 628 State Route 143, was charged Thursday morning with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty for each of the 18 cats taken from her property that had to be euthanized because they were so "maimed, diseased, disabled or infirm," the sheriff's office said.
Albany County Undersheriff Craig Apple said a total of 117 cats were roaming Sharpley's property when investigators converged on it April 18.
Sharpley was arraigned by Town Justice Kenneth Mackey and released on $3,000 bail.

Of those animals seized for health reasons, the surviving 28 are available for adoption at the Hudson-Mohawk Humane Society in Menands, Apple said.
Apple said the healthier animals that were not taken by the humane society were distributed to several feline rescue groups in the area.
