Francisca Flores says she was walking to the bus stop to meet her daughter when the pit bull appeared out of nowhere.
Flores suffered substantial wounds to her right arm and left buttock as she tried to protect her dog. She said no one in the Buckleigh neighborhood was around to help.
"’Help, help, help!’ But nobody was here to help me,” she recalled for NewsChannel 36.
She says the pit bull mauled her Pomeranian, taking it to a neighbor’s backyard where the little dog was discovered dead. Meanwhile, Flores went to get a neighbor who called 911.
Flores was rushed to the hospital where she received ten stitches and was heavily bandaged.

The Buckleigh Homeowners’ Association president says there have been a few more minor dog attacks in the past. A neighborhood website shows a number of warnings about keeping dogs on a leash.
“All dogs have teeth. All dogs bite. I have a dog myself, but I wouldn't let my dog run wild for the simple fact that she could bite someone,” said Anton Shaw, president of the association.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care and Control have the pit bull, named Romeo, in quarantine. Putting a dog in quarantine is standard after a dog bites a human. An investigation will dictate whether the dog is put down and whether its owner faces any charges.
