LORAIN, OH -- A 5-year-old boy from Lorain is recovering in the hospital after being attacked by dog near his home.
The incident occurred Tuesday evening in the 900 block of West 14th Street, according to a police report from the Lorain Police Department.
The boy is being treated at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital for injuries to his face and arms, and he has over 200 stitches, according to his grandmother, Patricia Armstrong.
"He was bit in his head, in his face, on his legs, on his buttocks, his arms. He just bit him anywhere he could bite him," Armstrong said.
The boy was initially taken to Mercy Hospital, but was then transported by medical helicopter to Rainbow, according to the police report.
Family members of the boy removed the dog— an American Bulldog (aka pit bull) —from the boy by beating it with a stick the size of a baseball bat.
When police arrived at the scene, the dog was covered in blood, the report read.
Witnesses told police that the dog appeared to belong to someone in a nearby apartment, but residents at that apartment denied owning the dog, police said.
Police were unable to determine who owned the dog, and the Lorain County Dog Warden responded to the scene to apprehend the animal.
The animal is now under the watch of the dog warden.
