Beware: Three stray pit bulls loose in Buena Vista, police say

BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, MI -- Police here are advising residents to look out for three stray pit bulls seen abandoned in Kueffner Park near Townline and Janes on Wednesday.

The warning comes one week after Buena Vista Township officers shot and killed two pit bulls and two weeks after police killed another large dog that charged officers in a threatening manner.

Police report a witness on Wednesday saw a motorist in a dark pickup truck release the three pit bulls in the park. Later, a witness on a bicycle told authorities one of the dogs attempted to charge him.

Officials say the dogs likely are over 1 year old and “brown and/or brindle” colored.

Last week, Police Chief Brian Booker said he worried a new “dangerous dog” ordinance in Saginaw coupled with his department’s ramped-up enforcement of Buena Vista’s dog ordinance may be contributing to owners abandoning their pets.

Last week, the two stray pit bulls later shot were discovered in a rural section of the township.

Booker urged residents who spot stray animals — dangerous or not — to call the Saginaw County Animal Care Center at 989-797-4505, 911 or the Buena Vista Police Department directly. The police department’s non-emergency phone number is 989-753-7793.
