Family of woman killed by pit bulls protests handling of case

TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES, NM -- The family of a woman mauled to death by dogs in Truth or Consequences gathered in Socorro to protest the handling of the case Friday.

Margaret Salcedo, 48, was killed by four pit-bull mixes while on her daily walk back in April.

"She was screaming, help me, help me, help me, somebody
help me,” said witness and neighbor Laura Russell.

So far charges have not been filed.

Gary Salcedo, the victim’s brother, told KOB Eyewitness News 4 that prosecutors and investigators are not following up with the family and have been aloof with the investigation.

"They don't really talk to you or let you know what's going on. You just run into a bunch of walls. Every place you ask, you get a different answer. You don't really get an answer that makes sense,” Salcedo said.

Gary Salcedo along with other family and friends gathered at the plaza in Socorro Friday afternoon and called for the removal of District Attorney Clint Wellborn.

Wellborn did not return calls to KOB for comment about the case.

Last week, a prosecutor told KOB the case was still under investigation.

The lovely house where these pit bulls lived.
