SANTA BARBARA, CA -- I am the lady who was attacked on Carpinteria Street the other day with my dog Cruiser. It was awful...I take Cruiser for a walk everyday down that street, but this time it was a nightmare.
A newly acquired pitbull jumped over the short fence at us as we passed...the image of this strong, powerful dog going after my small dog will be with me forever. The pitbull grabbed on to Cruiser's stomach and was not going to let go. I was not going to let this dog kill my precious animal we adopted from the streets of South Central LA!
I dropped to the ground to protect her as my instincts said would be the only way to save her. The pit then proceeded to attack me biting my face and hand. If it were not for brave Steve, now I know his name, who jumped out of his truck and started to hit the pit with all his strength with the metal end of his dog's leash we might not be here today.
Yes, be careful, of these aggressive (not misunderstood) dogs. And, please neighbors DO NOT rescue these dogs if you cannot assure the safety of your neighbors--it could have been a baby in a stroller, or elderly person not able to help themselves or their dog from such a vicious attack. Thank you Julie from Trader Joes' you were a saint to help us and Steve you did save our lives and will forever be grateful.
