More Than 80 Animals Removed From Home

OHIO -- Investigators said on Monday that they charged two people with dozens of animal cruelty charges after more than 80 animals were removed from their Washington County home.

The animals included 35 dogs and 33 chickens, 10TV's Glenn McEntyre reported.

Ducks, rabbits and birds were also inside the home.

Sheriff's deputies said that the home's exterior resembled the inside of a Dumpster.  It's interior was compared to a sewage tank.

"(The conditions were) worse than anything I've ever smelled or seen in my life," said Washington County sheriff's Deputy Kelly Schubert.  "There was so much feces and urine on the floor that you couldn't tell whether it was carpet or linoleum or what underneath it."

A kennel worker fell through a floorboard in the home that was rotted by animal waste, McEntyre reported.

"We probably should have had HAZMAT suits on before going in that house," Schubert said.  "It was that bad.  It absolutely hurts to think someone could put animals through this."

Schubert called the case a clear, if extreme, case of hoarding.

Three of the animals were euthanized.

Vicki Gray and Willie Ross were charged with 38 counts of animal cruelty.  An 18-year-old also living in the home was not charged, McEntyre reported.
