Salem woman and her pet attacked by pit bull

SALEM, OR -- A Salem woman was taken to Salem Hospital early this morning after she was bitten by a loose pit bull.

Salem Police officers received a call at 6:05 a.m. about a woman being bitten by a pit bull in 1900 block of 5th Street NE.

The victim, Sally Leary, told police that she had been walking her small dog when a brown-and-white pit bull ran across the street and attacked her and her dog, said Salem Police Sgt. Gordon Albert.

A neighbor who heard the attack ran to help her and managed to get the pit bull off of her, he said.

Leary was bitten several times on her upper left arm and was taken to Salem Hospital to be treated.

The pit bull was taken to Marion County Animal Control, Albert said.
