KNOXVILLE, TN -- Knoxville Police are investigating after a man and his daughter got attacked by a stray dog.
It happened around noon Saturday at a home on Hiawassee Avenue.
Officers said the man and his daughter had befriended the dog and petted it without any issues.
But when the girl approached the dog without her father, the dog bit her on the face.
Her father intervened and the dog bit him a couple of times on the face as well.
Family members said they aren't sure what provoked the animal.
"We saw him out here yesterday and called animal control, but by the time they got here they couldn't find it.
So then when we saw it again today, we called and they said to try to contain it. It was friendly at first, and all of a sudden it just turned to being mean," said Brandy Ramlow, the girl's aunt.
Animal control officers came out and picked up the dog.
The man and his daughter went to UT Medical Center for precautionary treatment.
