Toddler mauled by grandfather's pit bull

LA VERNE, CA -- A 3-year-old boy was bitten by his grandfather's pit bull dog Wednesday and may lose one of his eyes from the bite, police said.

The boy suffered cuts to his face and possibly to his extremities when he was bitten by the dog in the 1300 block of Baseline Road in La Verne.

Police said the boy's injuries are not life-threatening.

[NOTE: How nice. The boy's injuries are "not life-threatening" but he may lose one of his eyeballs.]

At about 6 p.m. the boy was taken to a fire station at 4785 Wheeler Ave. He was later airlifted to Children's Hospital Los Angeles, police said in a news release.

At the grandfather's request, the dog was taken from his home by the Inland Valley Humane Society, police said.

[NOTE: Doubly nice that Papaw decides NOW to get rid of the damn dog. I blame the parents, too, for even allowing their baby boy around this dog.]
