Vineland man's Chihuahua killed by loose dog

VINELAND, NJ  – A Vineland man called police Saturday morning when his pet Chihuahua was killed by a neighbor's dog that was running loose.

Just before 12 p.m. an officer responded to Mars Place for an animal complaint. He was greeted by a man who said a stray dog had come into his yard and killed his Chihuahua, Chulo, whose limp and bloody body he was holding in his arms.

He said his children had been playing with Chulo outside when a mixed breed dog with short brown hair and no collar had sauntered into their yard, appearing at first to be mild mannered.

It was then that the dog unexpectedly attacked. Hechased the dog off of his property and it ran toward Neptune Terrace. Though the man intervened quickly, the savage attack left Chulo with serious injuries to which he succumbed.

He said the dog probably belonged to a man named Joel Brown who resides on Neptune Terrace.

An officer went to his address and advised Brown of what had occurred. Brown was shocked and said that his dog, Drough, was always very timid with people and animals.

An animal control officer came to the house and detained Drough, whose fate is unknown. The man was advised of how he could file a complaint against Brown.
