Armstrong dog's owner gets probation in attack on child, grandmother

KITTANNING, PA — The owner of a dog that attacked an 18-month-old girl and her grandmother more than a year ago was sentenced Friday to nine months probation and ordered to pay fines and costs.

Under the plea agreement, Daniel George Baysinger, 54, of 216 Iron Furnace Road, Bradys Bend, pleaded guilty to charges of attacks by dogs and endangering the welfare of children, stemming from the March 24, 2010 incident that occurred inside his mobile home.

Baysinger's 4-year-old Perro de Presa Canario or "Canary Dog of Prey," Tegray, described as a guard dog, bit Emma Anderson in the face and bit her grandmother Jennifer Baysinger in the arm when she tried to stop the dog, sending both to a Pittsburgh hospital, according to court documents.

Family members told police that the dog attacked another person a few days before the incident, resulting in 15 stitches, and it attacked Baysinger at least twice in the previous several months.

The dog was supposed to be muzzled, according to police. A relative shot and killed the 160-pound dog after the incident.
