Court orders Rottweiler destroyed after attack

AUSTRALIA -- Bianca Singh says she feels justice has been served now that one of the Rottweilers that savaged her dog has been destroyed.

Her dog, Koko, a Cavoodle (a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel / Poodle mix), suffered torn muscles, bruising and cuts when he was attacked by Rottweilers (named Spaghetti and Meatball) in Doncaster East on December 22.

The dogs had escaped their yard after their owner, Ricky Kwan, left the gate open.

Kwan, of Doncaster East, pleaded guilty in the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court last month and was ordered to pay a $750 fine to Manningham Council and $921 to cover Koko’s veterinary bills.
The court also ordered Meatball be destroyed.

Spaghetti, who was found to have played a lesser role in the attack, was declared a “menacing dog”.

Kwan, who declined to comment when contacted by the Leader last week, was given three months to pay Ms Singh.

Ms Singh last week said she had not received any money. “I’m happy the dog’s gone but I’m angry it took so long for it to be given up,” she said.

Mayor Geoff Gough said the council would prosecute dog attacks to the full extent of the law.

“The lesson to be learned by all owners from this tragic circumstance is to take greater responsibility for their animals and ensure their dog(s) are housed in a secure environment,” Cr Gough said.
