Man injured after Rottweiler attack
TOPEKA, KS -- A Topeka man walking in a southeast Topeka mobile home park Friday morning required emergency treatment after he was attacked by a dog that police said moments earlier had charged at his girlfriend.
The incident occurred about 8:40 a.m. in the Ridgewood Estates mobile home park, located just east of S.E. 42nd and Adams.
Topeka police officer Aaron Bulmer said the man, identified as Paul Sharp, 31, and a female companion, identified as Christina Bryant, were walking east in the 700 block of S.E. 42nd when they were attacked by a brown and orange Rottweiler.
Bulmer said the Rottweiler, which came off the porch of a mobile home, went for Bryant at first.
Sharp tried to "shoo it away," Bulmer said. The dog then attacked Sharp, biting him on his right arm.
Sharp, who Bulmer said suffered "some pretty good gashes" from the dog bites, was taken to Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center by American Medical Response ambulance.
The Rottweiler's owner was cited for having a dog at large and maintaining a vicious animal.
Police on Friday afternoon said the dog's owner, who wasn't identified, surrendered the Rottweiler to animal control officers.
