Florida: Pit bull fatally shot by deputies in Pompano Beach

FLORIDA -- A dog identified by the Broward Sheriff's Office as a pit bull was fatally shot Friday morning by deputies who were serving a warrant, the agency said.

The deputies arrived at the residence in the 700 block of Northwest Fifth Avenue shortly after 7:30 a.m. to serve the arrest warrant, the Sheriff's Office said.

"They were approaching the house and the dog charged at them and they fired," said Jim Leljedal, director of media relations for the BSO.

Two deputies fired the shots.

The man named in the warrant was taken into custody without further incident, Leljedal said. He declined to provide details about the arrest.
