Pit bull shot, killed after multiple attacks

MONTCLAIR, CA -- A pit bull was shot and killed Saturday after it attacked two people in one day - including a Montclair police officer.

Jesus Martinez was out walking his dogs about 7:30 a.m. in the 4700 block of State Street when he was attacked by the dog, according to a Montclair police news release.

Martinez, 57, was treated at the scene by Montclair firefighters for bites on both his arms.

When Montclair police officers arrived, they started searching the area for the pit bull. As officers walked down a dirt alley, the pit bull came out and charged an officer, biting the officers on the left hand and the left thigh according to the news release.

Other police officers fatally shot the pit bull following the attack. The police officer was taken to a local hospital and later released.
