PORTALES, NM -- An animal control officer went to the Roosevelt General Hospital emergency room about 11:25 a.m. in reference to a dog bite.
A woman said her 7-year-old son was playing in the backyard and ran toward the back door. The pit bull belonging to his sister’s 21-year-old boyfriend attacked him and bit his left leg.
The dog pulled the boy to the ground, and a 9-week-old puppy started biting him, too.
The grandfather told the officer the owner had taken the dogs into the county and put them down.
The officer called the owner and asked where the dogs were. The man said they were tied and he might give one to someone in Clovis.
The officer told the man to bring it to the animal shelter instead because it had already bitten someone.
