FRANKLIN, PA -- Sharon Lydic has to gather herself before she can recount a pit bull attack on her puppy that forced the amputation of one leg and left behind $5,000 in vet bills.
“It was horrible,” the 59-year-old state worker said of the June 1 incident in which she also was bitten, and wound up covered in blood from the knees down.
She was taking Sarge, a 9-month-old chocolate Lab, for a walk around her Franklin Borough home.
The pup belongs to her son, Andrew, 24, a long-haul trucker.
Her dog suddenly stopped along the walk.
“And I saw this pit bull charging at us,” Lydic said. “All I had time to do was scream ‘No!’ and he came and grabbed my dog.”
The attacking dog belonged to neighbors but apparently was not kept behind a secure fence.
“My puppy was up against my leg yelping,” Lydic said. “I wouldn’t leave the dog.”
She yelled out, “Help me, somebody. He’s going to kill my puppy.”
Sarge relaxes with owner Andrew Lydic and girlfriend Kyleigh Lichtenfels. |
