Loose greyhound kills dog on leash in St. Paul

ST PAUL, MN -- A Yorkshire terrier - Poodle mix was killed Saturday after two Greyhounds got loose and one attacked it in St. Paul, according to police.

A man was walking his dog near Cherokee Park when the attack occurred, the police report said. The dog was taken to an animal emergency clinic, where it died.

The owner didn't realize his dog was being attacked until he heard his dog squeal, he said. Then he saw his dog in one greyhound's jaws. The second Greyhound stood nearby and didn't attack.

The man suffered a bite and scrapes while trying to fend off the Greyhound.

The loose dogs may have gotten out of their yard, said officer John Keating, a St. Paul police spokesman.

The case was forwarded to Animal Control.
