Pit bulls corner man for hours, then attack

CALIFORNIA -- The man was taken to an area hospital Thursday night. But Friday afternoon we caught up with him recovering from the attack and fuming over the entire situation. He said he just wanted these dogs off the street before they hurt someone else.

This isn't the first time animal control has been called to this neighborhood about these dogs. And for Michael McGee, he was upset that after what happened to him, the dogs were still next door.

"I didn't know what to do, I was backing up and I took my glasses that I had and threw it at the dog, and it kept coming at me. As soon as I turned myself around, dove at my ass and bit it!"

Earlier in the night he heard a noise outside so he went to investigate, and when he did he was cornered by two of the neighbors pit bulls for nearly two hours, just sitting, waiting, and hoping the dogs would leave him alone.

But he was not that lucky.  After the attack he was able to sneak around the back of his house where he had to jump a fence to get out of harms way.

"What does it have to take, a little girl, or little boy getting mauled before they are going to do anything? That's what I'm mad about!"

In looking for the answer we decided to talk to Kern County Animal Control, where they say it's not a cut and dried type situation.

"Every case is different, we have to look at the history of the animal, the history of the address, the aggressiveness of the bite. And what was the victim doing at the time they were bitten," says Tracy Wolfe, Kern county animal control.

But until Thursday night, they had never bitten anyone.

[NOTE: They had never bitten anyone... THAT WE KNOW OF!]

As it turns out, after we talked to the victim, the dog owners decided to turn the dogs over to the county where they will be quarantined for 11 days.

Then animal control will decide if the dogs can be rescued or not.  Not all outcomes are like this, but there are a couple of people in this neighborhood who will be sleeping a little better now, but also a family missing their pets.
