Woman mauled in pitbull cross attack

UK -- A TERRIFIED woman was mauled by a dog as she tried to protect her pet from being savaged.

Amanda Edwards was left with scratches to her face, arms and body when a snarling and spitting pit bull - mastiff cross breed attacked her as she walked her own dog in Eastmoor.

Little Freeway, a four-year-old Jack Russell - Poodle cross, was left covered in blood after being bitten on the fields behind Greenhill J&I School last Thursday afternoon.

Miss Edwards, 35, of Shepley Street, had been taking Freeway for his usual walk when she spotted the huge cream coloured hound hurtling towards them.

She said: “It looked like a big bulldozer coming at me. On instinct I picked my dog up to protect him.

“But it tried to bite me to get at Freeway, it was so aggressive and it managed to bite him badly on the back.”

She was also left with bite marks and scratches.

Miss Edwards said “When it was on it’s back legs this dog was taller than me and I’m 5ft 5ins.

“It’s face was higher than mine and it was snarling and spitting.”

Miss Edwards says she had shouted at the dog’s owner, who was near by, to put it on a lead when she saw it racing towards them.

She said: “It was only when it pulled my dog out of my arms that he eventually came over and tried to get him off but he couldn’t because the dog was so strong.

“He tried to offer me £40 towards the vets bills but I wouldn’t take it.”

Freeway had urgent treatment for his injuries and is still on antibiotics.

Miss Edwards said: “A lady who saw what happened said she had never seen anything as horrendous in her life.

“I have to get my partner to take Freeway out now, I’m too scared it will happen again.

“I’m so grateful that my dog is alive and well but I want everybody to be aware when they’re walking their dogs – I don’t want another dog being attacked and it makes you wonder what would have happened if that dog had gone for a small child.”

The incident has been reported to the police who are investigating.
