Boy, 9, injured in Leeds dog attack

UNITED KINGDOM -- A boy suffered a broken wrist and injuries to his face and head when two dogs attacked him in woods in Leeds.

Police said the nine-year-old boy, from Rothwell, was playing in Middleton Woods at about 15:20 BST on Sunday as a man walked dogs nearby.

The two dogs, who were not on leads, ran towards the boy and attacked him. The man is said to have intervened to stop the attack but he then walked off.

The boy was treated at Leeds General Infirmary before being allowed home.
'Very callous'
The dog owner was not thought to have contacted the emergency services.

Acting Det Insp Richard Stead, from City and Holbeck CID, said: "On face value the actions of the man walking the dogs appear to be very callous as he has not tried to get help."

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the attack to come forward.

The man is described as white, in his 30s, with a bald head and about 5ft 10ins tall.

He wore a light blue polo shirt, light blue jeans and white Nike trainers.

The dogs are both described as being similar to Staffordshire bull terriers.

One is described as black and white and "quite large", the other as small and black.
