Father Speaks Out After Son is Attacked by Pit Bull

MAINE -- He was severely attacked by a pit bull yesterday in Windham and today he's out of the hospital recovering from that attack. One and a half year old Devin Irish suffered serious injuries in the attack.

His father says the injuries were caused by a dog who wasn't properly raised and a breed of dog that is known for aggression.

Some dog experts we spoke to today say pit bulls are not naturally aggressive. They also say bad rearing is usually to blame.

As far as Devin goes, has a long road to recovery but he isn't expected to have any long term impacts.

[In the video, it says that family members say it was a family dog that showed no signs of aggression before it attacked the little boy, breaking his nose and requiring 64 stitches.

I put a lot of blame on the father of this child. Yes, it's easy to complain about a pit bull's tendencies and inherent aggressiveness after your child is attacked by one... but um, the dog belonged to the boy's papaw. Why was the father allowing his child anywhere near this dog?

Then they interview this crazy woman who runs a pit bull rescue (peace for pits) and explains in an irritating, know-it-all way, insists that "pit bulls are not prone to bite any more than any other dog"... "pit bulls are not any more aggressive towards people than any other dogs"... "it's how they're raised, not the breed of dog"... "there is nothing in a pit bull that will make it suddenly snap, that's such a fallacy". Like I said, CRAZY!]
