Infant mauled to death by family pit bull

TEXAS -- An infant died late Saturday after being mauled by the family's pet dog.

It happened around 9pm in the 16500 block of Cypress Bridge near Barker Cypress and Huffmeister in Cypress.

Harris County Sheriff's Office investigators say the 13-day-old baby was in a room in a swinging sleeper. The family's Pit Bull was also in that room.

That's when deputies say the dog, which weighs more than 100 pounds, began mauling the baby.

An adult was home at the time with three other children. That person heard the loud noises and ran into the room, but investigators say the baby had already been badly injured.

The baby was airlifted to an area hospital, but did not survive.

The dog was taken by animal control and will be quarantined for the next 10 days. His fate will be decided after that.

According to the family, the dog had never showed any signs of aggression before.

This case is being referred to the Harris County District Attorney's Office to see if charges will be filed.
