Pit bull kills Maltese on Vallejo street; authorities blame victim

CALIFORNIA -- A Vallejo resident's pit bull has been quarantined after it killed a Maltese and bit the small dog's owner, authorities said Wednesday.

The pit bull was being taken for a walk on the 100 block of Gleason Avenue at about 7 p.m. Tuesday when the small dog ran up and possibly provoked the attack, said Vallejo animal control director David Sidie.

[NOTE: Of course the owner of the pit bull is going to say it provoked his dog! But clearly the pit bull owner could NOT control his animal. If you are in control of your leashed dog, it will not be able to attack and kill a seven-pound dog! Oh and your pit bull was in such a frenzy killing this little dog that it also bit the Maltese's owner. What? No mention of the pit bull owner being bitten by his own dog? Perhaps b/c the pit bull owner simply stood there?

And let's see if we can use this defense of 'it was provoked' in human deaths. "Your Honor, I beat her to death with a crowbar because she got in my face, screaming at me and provoked me! It's not my fault." Talk about blaming the victim!]

The pit bull was on a leash. It also bit the small dog's owner's left leg. The woman was treated at the scene.

The Maltese escaped from its owner's home before bolting toward the larger dog, Sidie said.

The pit bull did not have rabies. The incident remains under investigation.
