Pit bull owner ordered dogs to attack, say police

AUSTRALIA -- A man has been charged after setting his pit bull terriers on four people, even throwing a dog on one man who climbed on to a car bonnet to escape, police say.

Two men were bitten by the dogs in King Street, Tahmoor, south of Sydney, about 4.30pm yesterday.

They told police the owner of two pit bull terriers encouraged the animals to attack.

Police said one of the men was chased and bitten by the dogs, while the other climbed on to the car before the owner threw one of his pit bulls on to him.

Both men suffered minor injuries.

Soon after, officers were called to a fast-food shop on Larkin Street to find the shopkeeper suffering from a severe wound to his leg.

The 51-year-old told police he was attacked by dogs after asking the animals' owner to leave his shop.

The shopkeeper was taken to Campbelltown Hospital.

Police have also been told that a teenager was attacked by the dogs at Tahmoor station earlier in the day.

The 46-year-old dog owner was arrested on Ibbotson Place, Tahmoor, last night and charged with three counts of causing dogs to inflict bodily harm.

He will face court in November.

Council rangers have seized the two dogs.
