Pit bull shot by police

CALIFORNIA -- Brawley police received the call at around noon Wednesday.

The report was a woman and another dog had been attacked at a residence in the 1100 block of Peach Street. Brawley Police Commander Brett Houser says officers arrived to find a 52 year old Hispanic woman lying in the backyard.

He said the woman had been bitten several times on the arms and legs by the family dog, an adult male pit-bull.

The animal had also attacked and killed the other family dog, an adult male Chihuahua.

Houser says when officers attempted to gain access to the backyard, the pit-bull moved towards them in an aggressive manner. The Commander says the officers were forced to shoot the pit-bull several times.

The injured woman was transported to Pioneer’s Memorial Hospital by ambulance for medical attention. Her condition was not revealed.

The dead animals were collected for examination and processing.
