WISCONSIN -- A dog is recovering one day after being attacked by a pit bull on Wausau's east side. Four-year-old Ebony, a cairn terrier, suffered serious injuries.
Ebony normally loves to play with its owners and roam around the house. But, in the hour that our crew was at the Tesch's home on Fulton Street in Wausau, Ebony hardly moved from her spot on the couch.
That's because as a result of the 45-minute attack yesterday, she has several bruises, bite marks, stitches on her tongue from lacerations, a missing tooth and a drainage tube on her neck.
"When he grabbed her, he shook her and threw her on the ground, so that separated some tissues on her neck, which caused her have a pocket, they call it, so it has to keep draining, if it doesn't, it can grow bigger and get infected," said Tesch.
The pit bull belongs to a neighbor whose yard is directly across the train tracks. And a friend was watching over the dog at the time and she told police the collar had slipped off of the dog's neck.
The Tesch's, who have lived in their home for 11 years, say they have exchanged waves with the other owner, but don't know him personally. And nothing like this has ever happened before.
NewsChannel 7 also spoke with police Wednesday, who cited the owners of the pit bull for failing to license the dog in the city of Wausau. And ordered the dog to be quarantined in its home for 10 days.
Officers are in talks with the city attorney to determine whether the pit bull is deemed viscious. If it is, it will likely be put down.
