The boy, thought to be between five and eight years of age, was playing with the dogs in the backyard at a home on the 1800 block SW 24th.

The adult owner tried to get the dogs off the child and the dogs then attacked the owner.

The owner did not suffer serious injuries but the child was taken by ambulance with minor injuries, mostly bites and lacerations.

Topeka police say the pit bull had to be tranquilized by animal control officers before it was transported to quarantine.
