Family of man killed by pit bull breaks silence

FLORIDA -- A local family is only sharing their anger and grief after their loved one was mauled to death by two pit bulls.

Roy McSweeney was mauled by two pit bulls back in June. His wife and daughter sat down with Action News to talk about the pain. "I didn't get to say goodbye that's what bothers me," said Sharon McSweeney.

Its been a tough five months for the family. "I can't pick up the phone and tell him I miss him," said his daughter Kim Bailey.

This week the owners of those two pit bulls were arrested and charged with an attack by a dangerous dog, resisting an officer and giving false information to police. Deanna Blitch and her son William don't face any charges directly related to McSweeneys death. McSweeney's daughter Kim doesn't want to talk about the investigation but says nothing will bring back her father. "I don't think anything in the world can bring you closure," said Bailey.

So they take it one day at a time and lean on each other for support. Kim says she made her father a promise as he was laying in the hospital bed after the attack. "She's my life now. I made a promise to dad that I'd take care of her," said Bailey about her mother.

The state attorney's office wouldn't comment on why there were no specific charges related to McSweeney's death. Blitch and her son are out of jail on bond.
