Neighborhood emotional after pit bull attack

SOUTH CAROLINA -- Neighbors in one Forestbrook community are still emotional after they say two pit bulls attacked at least three people Tuesday night.

No one was seriously injured, but one of the victims included 8-year-old Terzel Young. Young says he was playing outside when both dogs chased him and then tackled him to the ground, trying to bite him. He got away with just barely a scratch.

"One made me trip. It was the little one that made me trip and I fell. Then the big one jumped on me and then bit me," said Young.

Young's grandfather and a next door neighbor Michael Pierce say they thought the worst when they saw the attack. Pierce says after attacking Young, the dogs turned on him.

grandfather says the dogs "just snapped"

According to a report from Horry County Police, officers got to the scene just after 5:30 p.m. after they got a call about a woman being attacked. The report says she was trying to get her cat away from the dogs when one bit her.

The report states the dogs were taken to the Horry County Animal Care Center where they remain in quarantine. According to police the dogs' owner will be cited when they make contact with her.

"I'd like the owner to take some responsibility or at least an apology. That's a very dangerous situation, those are very dangerous animals," said Pierce.

Other neighbors say they're sorry about what happened, but the breed should not be blamed.

[It doesn't say in the article, but the video clip interview says "William Lackey's been around pit bulls a lot because his brother breeds them. He says it's  not the animal, it's how you train them...."]

"I can say personally that a pit bull is a really smart dog. So you know they're not as bad as it's all made up to be," said William Lackey.
