CALIFORNIA -- A six year old boy from Delhi required stitches for severe injuries that occured when a pit bull attacked him outside his home on Thursday afternoon.
Merced County Sheriff's deputies say the attack happened just after 4 pm when he went outside to play with another child and the grey pit bull attacked him.
Family members ran outside to help the boy and to pull off the attacking 50 pound animal. The boy was bitten several times on his head, neck and arms.
Deputies say another dog, a white pit bull, may have attacked the boy as well but it has not yet been determined as the family was uncooperative when they arrived on scene.
The attacking pit bull also attacked the deputy before he was taken into custody. He will be tested for rabies and euthanized authorities say.
The family claims they've never seen the grey pit bull responsible for the attack but that they do own the white dog.
At this time no criminal charges are expected since family members were uncooperative about who owned the grey pit bull.
